20 Minute NSDR Yoga Nidra to Reset the Nervous System
Non sleep deep rest or NSDR is a term coined by Dr. Andrew Hubberman that refers to the state of conscious sleep achieved using systematic relaxation techniques, similar to those found in the ancient traditional practice of yoga nidra. NSDR brings the practitioner into a deep state of conscious sleep or restful awareness where the brain relaxes, the body releases tension, and a deep sense of calm is felt throughout. This calm activates the parasympathetic division of the nervous system and all of the therapeutic qualities that come along with it.
NSDR and yoga nidra are effortless methods of guided meditation that guide the practitioner into the deeper brainwave states we experienced in natural biological sleep. Only here, a sense of awareness remains present. Let go of the overactive thinking mind, relax the physical body, and get the deep rest that you need, effortlessly.
Find a comfortable place to rest on the back of the body, either on your yoga mat, the couch or even in your bed. Close down the eyes and rest back into the experience of just listening.
