It used to take me at least 30 minutes to warm up for a workout. Sometimes, I would spend more time and energy warming up than I did actually working out.

Now, I'm ready for my workout in around 5 minutes or fewer thanks to three simple strategies.

Good tips on the basis stretches. I have been doing them for a week now, adding in chin tucks & cobra pose in a circuit fashion, 20 secs for each stretch.

3 x times a day: after waking up in the morning; after work in the evening and before going to bed at night.


I have gotta say that I'm feeling more energized now throughout the day and my motions on the basic chain movements are getting smoother too. The best thing is that the tense/pain feeling around my upper back & lower back is subsides.

Thanks Matt. While I always warm up and warm down, I don't like to spend a lot of time doing this. Its very helpful to get some useful tips on how to do this time effectively. Also you've confirmed one in particular for me: the stretching to full vertical extent. I've always done this because it feels good but was never really sure if it was beneficial, so thank again!

Love it, I usually take about 11 to 15 minutes. I'm now going to incorporate the exercises I'm going to do.

I am doing the same thing for my workout, works perfect. I do australian rows and sometimes some pullup holds before pullups and pushups and banded dips before dips.
Its like warming up with an emtpy barbell for a heavy benchpress and ramping up slowly.

I'm a big fan of using resistance bands to warm up. I have 3 sets of bands setup in increasing tension and I just cycle through one after the other without rest. This works very well to get warmed up.

The. Just the first set of my workout I'll do 50% reps to get that final warm-up pump.

As you get older the body's ability to hurt itself in the first 2 minutes if a workout is incredibly efficient.

Love it. Was just talking to my kids about this today as they snuck up on me working out at 6 in the morning. They were asking me about warming up so I told them about how I do easy progressions of my exercises as a warm up after getting the wrists, shoulders, ankles and other joints more mobile. Its like you read m mind.

also I used to be a 30-45min warm up guy.

my current believe is that if i am not ready to go hard on my exercise after 2-3 build up sets I am NOT ready for that progression yet.

There are some things that I find you could waste some energy ramping up into, like explosive pullups. Usually I'll do those at the very beginning sets, I stop once i lose the explosiveness (pulling to waist height)
