Best 5 Exercises with a Mallet Finger Splint On: What To Do While Your Mallet Finger is Healing

Join Michelle as she guides you through 5 exercises you can do with your mallet finger splint on. Typically you have to wear a mallet finger splint for 6-8 weeks, or longer. This not only makes your injured mallet finger very stiff but also your WHOLE hand.

Since a mallet splint can prevent you from using your hand normally, it is important to keep the range of motion of all your uninjured finger joints. Proper healing of your mallet finger is top priority. So it is important to perform these exercises with your splint ON if your mallet finger is still healing.

Always consult with a doctor or your hand therapist to make sure you are doing these exercises correctly. See disclaimer below.

I have seen your video on how to shower with a mallet splint on, thank you, I will try. My concern is that I do a lot of food prep and cooking and would like to know how to keep the little finger in splint dry when doing this. Thick rubber gloves will be too bulky for this. I do try to just use just the left hand which is a little okay, although not enough much of the time, and many gloves that I have seen may take off the splint when removing them. Any ideas from you, or from the community? I have the plastic splint which covers top and bottom of finger and was given a silicone cup( I believe that is what it is called) to hold it in place. The splint still gets wet, although I am being extra careful. Thank you.

Thanks for this video, 🙏 please could you bring to us therapy for thumbs? I need Execises for thumbs both hands please. I need urgently. The dr. Who did a procedure to my hands didn't explain what kind of exercises to do. He just say put ice on hands AND try to move them after. AND days after other dr. Says use you should use splints. But the protocolo Is really slow AND just bring me one. I try to get the other by myself And I use them at Nights. AND tour video has really useful. But I need for thumbs . Blessings.

I am feeling really frustrated today. I fell a week ago and noticed 5 days later that my little finger was pointing down and had two bony bits on the top of finger. I went to emergency room yesterday and was in there for hours and x-ray showed fractured right little finger. After more hours they came in to tell me that they do not have any splints. I will cut this short - I finally had them get a plastic splint from orthopedic department (another hour). A gentleman put this on with tape (not water resistant) and I finally left happy that my finger was splinted. Well, any drop of water and the splint fell off again and again. I found out that there is a ortho casting dpt and I am going there today. Hopefully they will know more and not send me home with the same splint.

Is there a splint or wrap that you think may be helpful? I hope I get the answer from the cast dpt, but after yesterday I am discouraged as the emergency room (yes, they were busy and I was patient) did not seem too informed about splints.
