Help me make more cheesy content:

What is the least amount of exercise you can do in order to maintain good health? We're used to the usual 30 to 60 minute workout sessions, especially if we want to not only get healthy, but also get in shape, but what would be the absolute minimal amount of exericse you can do to attain some of the health benefits from exercise? Interestingly, a new study shows that it's a lot, LOT less that we might have thought! Let's find out.

Just seems like a very badly executed study.

Not the conclusion I'd draw.
If the 150min group consisted of people who regularly exercised, they might not show significant improvement if they are already in good shape. There should have been a control group of non-exercising people

This sounds like a scam ad I would see on a sketchy site.
"You wouldn't believe their secret!?"

"Doing anything is better than doing nothing", while evidently true for making meaningful fitness progress, I think it is still valuable to have this mentality for someone trying to form a routine and habit of exercising. Telling a couch potato they need to start working out 3-4 hours every week is going to be too much and they will fail. But getting them to start with 1 hour a week, building up the habit and routine of doing exercise regularly, then they can add on to that.
Telling them that they might as well be doing nothing would just make them stop.

Can i do 12 to 16 seconds aday? 30 seconds is a bit too much

Your body adapts to what you put it through so it’s worth considering that the control group not showing meaningful improvement from their usual routine should not exactly be surprising. It’s not necessarily showing that 150 minutes of exercise a week isn’t sufficient for a person to improve, it’s more likely showing that 150 minutes a week isn’t sufficient for continual growth and improvement in a person who is already used to do doing that 150 minutes a week

My question would be: why would someone design a study specifically to check something that common sense could answer?
Also 3:27 we can't draw the conclusion that doing Nothing is the same as doing a small something, because the Control group was not doing nothing. All we can say is that 30s doesn't help Improve, but maybe it helps with maintenance.
But still, why design the study that way 🙄

But they MAINTAINED their exercise routine, so if you MAINTAIN obviously nothing gona change, but obviously you'll be healthier than doing nothing.

Uhm
1. the control group was also doing the 150
2. What does it mean it didn’t improve? Because it seems like it can be interpreted 2 ways:
2.1. There was no improvement from the start of the 6wks so they were the same like 6wks ago or the same as if they wouldn’t have done any exercise (now this is tricky again because if they did nothing over 6wks they can also regress depending on their lvls of fitness, so it might be that those minutes are to at least keep you at the same level. Ignoring the fact that there is no data about their training so it’s really unreliable)
2.2. There was no improvement over their trend (ie they were doing their normal workouts they were getting their normal results and improvements, and the 30” didn’t add anything to that —- because to be a candidate to this you’re already supposed to be a bit active and be kinda fit, because of the necessity of prior 150’/wk habit)
There was also no data about their diets? Adding something really high intensity is bound to make you feel hungrier in specially if they were only doing moderate training (low or high aerobic compared to max power anaerobic)
Edit: what do you mean at 1:54? All subjects were doing the 150’ moderate (or the 60’) - so the non control were just doing 2, 5minutes more (150’ vs 152, 5’)

The effectiveness of the duration of exercise depends on what kind of exercise you do and what kind of results you aim for : i have had great results in increasing strenght and muscle mass by doing only one set ( per muscle group ) of heavy, all out weight training. I might not be typical for the majority of the population, but it shows it is possible ( depending on what you look for )

doing it wrong. Doing it wrong everywhere. Competency crisis. We found nothing conclusive, therefore lets make conclusions.

The study could have been meaningful if it was "is 30 sec plank everyday useful"

You could save an extra 30 seconds of this workout and see the same result!

The control group was not exercising 24-60x longer than the experimental group unless they told the experimental group to stop exercising other than the 30s. It’s more likely they added 30s of vigorous exercise to their typical routine. Incorrect interpretation.

30 seconds?
I'm 50 years old. It takes me 30 minutes to warm up. 😂

So basically working out for 30 seconds a day is better than NOT working out? Great

Were the test subjects Wally West, Speedy González, and Sonic the Hedgehog?!

2:39 is that really a conclusion we can take? I can make the opposite argument: 30 seconds a day was enough to maintain fitness, no difference from potentially a lot more time!
