My journey from 240 to 170 pounds started with a daily walk.

Walking every day became a key habit that led to several positive changes in my lifestyle.

I started by tracking my steps with a pedometer. Then I used an app on my phone. From there it gave an estimate of calories burned. That helped me to become more aware of the "cost" of some foods.

Because of this, I got into rowing, started increasing my activity levels, took the Noom program for a few months, experimented with keto and paleo, cut a lot of carbs, and have kept the weight off for about a couple of years.

Nowadays, feel "off" if I don't have a walk at some point in the day.

I usually like to go in the morning, but if I don't, I try to get it done at some point.

Walking is a great cardio exercise and low impact. It's also a great way to get out of a mid-day slump.

Einstein, Churchill, and numerous writers and philosophers were also avid walkers. Some did their best thinking while out for a walk.

Oftentimes, getting up from the desk and going for a walk can be more productive than banging your head against your desk when you're stuck on a problem.

What do you think? Do you have a walking routine, or is it something you want to start?
