I often get asked: Mario, how to lose weight without counting calories or can you lose weight without counting calories? And there are two ways to approach this. If you have no idea how to track calories or how to count your macros, I'm a big believer that you should do a period of time where you track everything to learn portion sizes and understand how to create a calorie deficit and set your macros. On the other hand, if you already have experience tracking calories and macros and have been doing it consistently, I believe there's value in learning how to stay consistent with your diet without using a calorie tracking app.

And in this video, I'm sharing my favorite 4 habits that will help you lose body fat without tracking calories. These habits will help you simplify your diet and help prevent a lot of mindless eating, which is one of the reasons why so many people struggle to lose body fat. At the end of the day, if you're eating the right way and progressing toward your fitness goals, then whether you're logging your food intake isn't important.

I wrote you a couple months ago about your help with my diabetes and A1C… went to doctor last Friday - A1C is down to 5.9 and all other indicators are in normal range. I’m off my Actos and Metformin. Your advice is excellent - tracking, being realistic, habits, etc. Thank you for your help from afar…

One way that helps me know when I am really hungry is that I drink a lot of water, like two glasses. And I wait for 15-20 mins. If I a still hungry, then I know that I am really hungry.

I got my 13 yo son into lifting at my gym at home. Last weekend I took him to a commercial gym for the first time . He loved it. Its alot more fun than my home set up. I'm going to pick him up from school today and take him again. I'm a single dad so I like to foster whatever interests he has and it happens to be something I love to do also. Father and son arm day. Then maybe get some sushi. Thanks alot mario I can't stop thinking about sushi now. He also asks my about what to eat. I just tell him all I learned from your videos. Which this might be good for him to watch. He's a kid he's not gonna be like me weighing every thing I eat.

Step 4 is what I do. I rarely track calories anymore. I pre plan my meals in my head. (After trial and error) or I know roughly in my head what calorie estimates are. I have lost nearly 20 pounds in the last 12 weeks doing so. 148 down to 128 💪

Thank you!! I have OCD so my therapist warned me against counting calories when trying to lose weight so I've been trying my best to learn ways without having to do the whole macros/calories thing.

My wife cooks all our meals and I told her I was going to work on getting a six pack. She asked what my plan was. I said I will eat just enough where I'm still a little hungry. It worked!

This is true. Most people grow up thinking eating until completely stuffed is full.. but half the food on an average plate is enough to carry the person to the next meal or next day.

A method I use is to manually input calories and macros as it forces more attention to the data. I used this method when I started tracking, but later switched to MyFitnessPal; but I quickly noticed that scanning bar codes or selecting presaved meals meant I wasn't mentally absorbing the data or making mental connections between what I eat and the calories or macros etc. Going back to individually handwriting or typing into "notes" on my phone quickly and radically improved my meal awareness, especially for regular repeated meals like breakfast, lunch & snacks. I hope that helps.

Thank you for your videos. You and Meal Prep Manual-Channel have helped me loads in changing the way I eat. Its easier when you don't have to make decisions when you are hungry. Just plan ahead. I make lunches for the whole week on sundays. Dinners are always a sallad with 150g of lean protein.

Set and forget works really well
Helped me go from 13st 7lbs to 10st 12lbs in about 6 months
Always leave a bit of jiggle room for added oils, spices etc, but otherwise just follow what you calculated

At the gym the other day on the cardio machine I was having a chat with my biddy Sal about diet. I told him, I REFUSE to track macros. EVERY OTHER ASPECT of my life is regimented. I WILL NOT weigh everything and log everything I eat. I will be living my life as a robot if I do that. Thanks for the video. It was helpful!
