Much of the details of this story were extremely intense/ gruesome, so I had to leave them out. Regardless, here are a few additional facts:

-Just before being executed, Kurten asked: "Tell me... after my head is chopped off, will I still be able to hear, at least for a moment, the sound of my own blood gushing from the stump of my neck? That would be the pleasure to end all pleasures"

-Kurten claims to have first killed at the age of 9 when he pushed a school friend off a raft. A second classmate would attempt to save the drowning boy, but the pair both went ended up drowning. Though it was initially ruled as an accident by the autorities, Peter would later admit to his murderous intentions.

-The terror this killing spree caused in Düsseldorf was so intense that the police not only received the 13, 000 letters from the public, but during their investigations they also conducted over 9, 000 interviews with the public, compiled a list of over 900, 000 potential suspects, and actively pursued 2, 650 different leads / clues.

-Kürten earned the moniker "The Vampire of Düsseldorf" because he occasionally made attempts to drink the blood from his victims' wounds.
