Here's some additional background information if you're interested in learning more!:

- Although upon being captured, Holmes initially claimed to merely be an insurance fraudster, he eventually admitted to killing 28 people in exchange for a $7, 500 payment from a newspaper ($200k+ today). Another way Holmes was thought to have made money was by stripping his victims' corpses down to their skeletons, then selling them to nearby medical schools for study.

- While in court, Holmes' trial was only for a single count of murder and he decided to act as his own attorney. However, despite his best efforts, Holmes was found guilty and sentenced to death. He also appealed his case, but lost and was hung in 1896. Before being hung, Holmes requested that his body be buried 10 feet deep and encased in cement because he was concerned that grave robbers would steal and dissect his body.

- Holmes' ‘Castle’ happened to be located very close to the 1893 World Fair- an event that attracted millions of tourists from around the world. To take advantage of this, Holmes placed newspaper ads that advertised his property as the "World's Fair Hotel." These ads were very successful, and by the end of the Fair, there were more than 50 visitors who were reported missing and could be traced back to the Castle, where their trails had ended.

Mofo literally had created a dungeon from Scooby-Doo. 💀
Also those 15 minutes of suffering was justified.

Adding to this because I am a big fan of researching old serial killers:
- holmes didn't torture his victims for the most part, only if they were gassed or otherwise put under anaesthetic beforehand, presumably to keep a low profile/stop loud sounds from making people suspicious. Most of the "torture devices" were actually used to perform medical experiments on the corpses, the results for which he was actually revered as a surgeon for a short time, although he did lie about HOW he cane to the conclusions that he did.
- Holmes's castle actually went through a few names in the press, from the world fair hotel to the murder hotel.
- He was arrested before for insurance fraud. Before opening the hotel, he did one last insurance scam with his partner, and blew him up in the process. It's unknown whether or not this was intentional.
- He would claim the insurance on specific "residents" of the hotel. If he knew they were of status and had insurance policies, he would claim they died of mysteruous circumstances in the hotel, but that he was a relative staying with them. The insurance companies never questioned this
- There is evidence of Holmes selling the skeletons of his victims to schools and hospitals, good way to dispose of the bodies and make money at the same time, apparently. There is also speculation that he sold the organs of his victims.
- While it's suspected he killed 20-200 people, he was only ever proven to have killed arpund ten. This does not, however, take into account the multiple skeletons sold to medical facilities OR the actual basement/crematorium, since they never dug it out to check for corpses.

This is all just off the top of my head, I might've gotten some things wrong**

For somebody who put that much effort into being a killer, you would think he would put a little more effort into his meal.

Fun fact:

Holmes is also widely believed to have been Jack the Ripper. He took trips to London during the times Jack was active, and Jack “disappeared” after Holmes returned to the US

My amazement is that he was able to have such a building go completely un-checked by any sort of local authority

H. H. Holmes is actually fascinating. Like, it’s crazy that this man actually existed and did these things. American Horror Story made a whole season about him and Dark Pictures Anthology made a game about him. I wish there was more on him.

Diddy would eat five guys for his last meal. Sounds about right.

They made a horror game about him. The Devil in me. It was made by the same people who made Until Dawn i think. Took place in the past and present using similar construction shown here plus some modern twists. Was pretty cool.

As H.H. Holmes always says "Its all about the game and how you play it."

H.H. Holmes was ahead of his time. He planned his last meal as an affront to this very format of content. For that, he deserves S-Tier for planning at least.

And don’t forget that he changed the workers often so no one would know the exact layout of the building except for himself.
