Lower back pain is a common problem in today's society. Causes can include overweight and lack of exercise. But even those who exercise regularly and do strength training can suffer from back pain. In this case, incorrect execution or poor posture is often the origin.

What can you do about it? Here are three tips:

1. Identify Which Exercise Causes the Pain: It is advisable to stop doing this exercise for now or find an alternative. Exercises that can cause lower back pain if done incorrectly include squats and deadlifts. In this case, split squats or single leg deadlifts can be alternatives, as they typically cause fewer problems.

2. Focus More on a Good Warmup: And I don't just mean 5 minutes on the cross trainer or treadmill, but a proper warmup including dynamic stretching. You can find an example of such a warmup here.

3. More Stretching! During strength training, the spine and joints are under pressure. Stretching or decompression helps to relieve this pressure and maintain a healthy spine.

With these three simple measures, many cases of lower back pain can already be resolved. And if not, common sense should be applied here as well. That means if it doesn't get better, have a doctor check it out (or maybe even better; go directly to a chiropractor).
