As soon as i started treating life more like a game i started succeeding more. This was a hack i figured out before i found out i had ADHD.

Best way to apply this is to imagine you're a character out of GTA or RuneScapeand level up with quests and side missions 💯😆🤙🏼

I’ve done this ever since I can remember. When is was very young…like 3yrs old, my mom told me I was so busy that she would put me to work doing chores. I remember pretending I lived with the wicked step-mother from Cinderella..I carried it to a point where I had imaginary “mice” that were my friends and they lived under my dresser. I have carried that into adulthood where I treat life as more of an adventure game..or video game with levels and tasks to accomplish in order to “win” at life. Sounds a little silly…but seriously whatever works…works! ❤

My 11 year old was struggling at Christmas last year and my sister in law got annoyed by her. My daughter told her she was diagnosed Autistic and ADHD, and my sister in law told her she just needed to control herself. When I told her we were leaving early because I was sick of her picking on my daughter, she tried playing the victim, and saying that we didn't tell them anything, so she didn't know what they did. I did tell her though. Very clearly. Several times. As I have told her many times over the years. She doesn't understand, and doesn't care, because it's not about her. Except when her feelings are hurt, because I've told her yet again 🙄

Be yourself, don't let others rule you. But be considerate of others, don't do back flips at a somber funeral... but if it is a celebration of life for someone who it is known would appreciate such an act then go for it.

I agree. Expect nothing from nothing when you’re a backseat driver and your hands aren’t on the wheel.

Exactly. I diagnosed this last year at 56 with severe mixed ADHD. It’s been hard letting those preconceived ideas of how I should act and look. I still struggle occasionally but am getting better at being ME. Luckily I have a great life partner that lets me be me. My boys have been great about understanding my diagnosis.(they are the ones that encouraged me to get diagnosed. All three have it) Unfortunately my two girls do not understand the diagnosis and refuse to learn it.

It took me a long time to become my own person and be comfortable with my own skin. When you sell reflect then you can make steps to make your life better than my opinion and I’ve gotten to the point where I’m OK with how I think I’m not doing anything for anybody but myself because when I can take care of myself and number one is satisfied, then I can help and take care of other people

I think (maybe?) boys/men hear that more frequently - my lived ADHD experience is that the socialization differences set different expectations. I didn't (and don't) hear "you should" from others (just myself), but the social expectations were already there. Keep a clean house. Be a great mom by doing all the things. Make great, healthy meals. Etc. It's exhausting for all of us, just different levels of "should" - and likely why women aren't diagnosed as frequently...

I'd love more ideas on how you do this. I realize that, after years of forcing myself into the mold, I let the party of my that creates fun, atrophy and die.

That's all I hear is " you should"
