Good to see Vazir's exercises to strengthen the muscles used in climbing stairs. My approach, however was different. I am 83, so I have had some proof that my ideas from 55 years ago were good. In my late 20's I was a student at a college in Boston where most of the buildings were 4 or 5 stories high with no elevators and initially my knees were painful and hurt each and every time I went for classes. But about 18 months later that pain was gone. Logically, I concluded that climbing stairs was what I needed.
So when some years later I decided to build a house for my retirement I had a house with 4 levels designed for me. 29 steps total. My architect, my relatives and all of my neighbors expressed consternation at what they saw as my building punishment for my retirement.
This experiment worked quite well for me and for my wife. The only time we have difficulty with my stairs is after we spent a couple weeks vacationing at ground level and never climbing when away from home. Practice what you need for later. not just for today.

My co worker who was about 350 lbs had great difficulty getting up the stairs at work. She was literally dragging her weight up the stairs. I asked her if she can walk on her tippy toes and she said yes and I told her to try that as it uses different muscles. She came to me a few days later with tears in her eyes and she said "You have given me a new lease on life". Since then she has lost all the weight and is enjoying her new found freedom.

As a 70-yr old, I can fully endorse these exercises. This is one of the best (if not THE best) videos on the subject.

My mom who was living with us, at 94, had a 10 day hospital bout. She could only shuffle a few steps after that. But we had a 5 step front porch entrance. We daily went to parks, or a mall or visited friends and family. (She had oxygen and a walker)
Mom worked diligently for three months with chair exercises and going up and down on just one or two steps on our inside stairs. And she did it! She got down and up the front porch. She was exuberant! Mom had two more years of good life before her lungs gave out (emphysema)
She used to say, “ If only I hadn’t smoked!”
Miss her a lot.

87 this month and living in a bungalow. These exercises (seen today for the first time) have given me hope that I will soon be able to venture out alone and not have to worry about going up and down kerbs to cross the road, and shops with steps to enter. Very many thanks. I shall be starting your exercises today! 😊

Teaching not only how to but how not to. Thorough, concise, spoken evenly with nice tonal inflections. Best how to exercise video for those of us over the hill, trying to get over the hill like we used to. Thank you Shrey.

Here's why I subscribed, the information was short and complete. You recognized that I am not here to study for a PhD, but need clear information. Lastly the exercises are easy to remember and sound doable.

Love your videos. They are a great help for this 74 Year old. Used to climb stairs for an hour everyday when in my 30s. Have started having problems going down the stairs. This video is a great help especially after a back operation. Thanks again.

For the first exercise I folded my arms to my chest. I also use ankle weights to help strengthen my leg muscles. I loved all three of your exercises and plan to use them every day. Thank you! I’m 72

This is an EXCELLENT video! So clear to understand, so natural, not robotic, simple and 'do-able!' Thanks so very much for this video. My husband (80) and I (73) will start working on these three exercises!

I am much younger than most people commenting here. I noticed pain in my knees going up the stairs and added milk to my oatmeal cereal (which I had stopped several years earlier due to other reasons) and my pain completely went away. But that was just a warning and I am going to try out these exercises for future. Great information!
