How much water should you drink with kidney disease

In my last video I talked about how much water someone needs to drink to keep themselves hydrated and I talked about your "wicked smart" kidneys. Of course, I neglected all the people who follow me who have chronic kidney disease and whose kidneys don't work perfectly. I address that in this video.

Working as a kidney doctor, I found that my patients were often unaware of just how important diet and lifestyle were and how often they felt unsupported by generic advice to “eat healthy”.

The home cook in me hated hearing this, so I set out to find a better way. I began to combine my medical training and love of food, making videos of simple recipes that were based on science and packed with flavor. Instead of just saying “eat healthy” to my patients, I could give them the resources they needed to make a real difference in their health.

Kidney doctor, passionate home cook, and YouTube sensation Dr Blake Shusterman empowers people to proactively manage their health by stepping into the kitchen. The author of several cookbooks with over 100,000 YouTube subscribers, The Cooking Doc® believes anyone, at any age can transform their health with small changes that make a big difference. Based on science and packed with flavor, Dr. Blake’s simple recipes have inspired home cooks everywhere to change their diet, retrain their taste buds, and transform their health.

I had a kidney transplant a year ago. I was told by two different drs that I was drinking too much water. I was drinking equivalent to 2 liters, no swelling, my urine when tested was very clear. I was told that it was way too much, it gets so confusing. I’ve been told forever, drink, drink, drink, now it’s too much🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you for making these videos. I did not need it until I was diagnosed with a kidney stone. I thought I was drinking enough water but sometimes when I have to be away from a toilet for more than an hour I do not drink water.

I got diagnosed last year with stage 3 ckd. My doctor put me on the wait and see approach. I don't think that was the smart approach and I don't trust him enough to go back. So now I've got to find a new nephrologist because I think my kidneys are declining.

I'm stage 2. Went to docs last week for results of bloodtests. I forgot to get printout of results, though he did say my urea was high, and he found he had many patients with high urea and it can be caused by red meat and heat, ( we are having a very hot summer.
Through doing my own research I found it also can be caused by dehydration, so I'm finding out how much water I need to drink.
I have read 1-2 litres, or when I'm thirsty. I don't see how water intake for me at 45 kgs. and someone who weighs 100 kgs could be the same, and now I have to worry about drinking too much.
My doctor is helpful to an extent, but because I won't take any medication, no diabetes, normal blood pressure, certainly not overweight, I mainly only see him for tests every 3 months.
As he said, his job is to prescribe medication, that's what he's trained for, and as I won't take medication, ever, he can't do much, so I'm on my own with much conflicting advice to sift through.
I'm also concerned with my weight loss, as all fattening foods are things I can't eat.

Post nephrectomy surgery & 5”2’ female.
Bladder explodes with pain with over load of water, but no feet inflammation. I take protein liquid meals, electrolytes water & yes & a plant base diet with white meats, fishes along with veggies & fruits. Light sugar, no alcohol & I feel water regulation is necessary for the remaining kidney of water intake. Thank you for your water & liquid information ❤
