🏋🏻‍♀️HIP IMPINGEMENT REHAB🏋🏻‍♂️

⚒Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) is a term used to describe pinching / grinding / pain in the hip joint. The femoroacetabular joint is essentially the point at which the head of the femur (thigh bone) comes in contact with the acetabulum (hip socket).

⚒First off, most individuals will report feeling some impingement-type symptoms at some point in their life, & that doesn’t mean it’s something that needs to be addressed- it’s very normal!

⚒With that being said, pain / symptoms are usually noted with end range hip flexion, adduction, and internal rotation. While some bony or labral changes may be also associated with pain in this area, it’s also possible to see these changes on imaging without having any symptoms at all.
↪️That’s why it’s important to assess the person and their goals and not solely base the prognosis off of x-rays or MRIs.

⚒If you have been diagnosed with hip impingement or FAI, simple changes are generally the best place to start, such as modifying range of motion, technique, load, etc.

⚒The other option is to work on mobilizing / strengthening areas that might help mitigate your symptoms & reduce sensitivity to this area.

Here are some ideas to help:

1️⃣Banded Hip Distraction
2️⃣Seated Reverse Clams
3️⃣Banded Wall Clams
4️⃣Hip Flexor Lifts
5️⃣Copenhagen Lifts (2 variations shown)

📍Number of sets and reps will depend on the individual and what they need to spend more time working on: mobility / strength but I usually have them start with 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps.

Do you do these on the side with the hip impingement? Video is confusing cause it shows hip impingement on her right but she’s doing some of these exercises on her left. 🤔
