An intense 30 min yin yoga class for hip & hamstring flexibility

Namaste yogis, this class was filmed during my trip to Cuba in February. I know.. took me 4 months to upload.. I'm kind of a procrastinator... but here it is! This is what I call an "intense" yin yoga class because it includes what I think are the most challenging yin yoga postures. It focuses a lot on hamstrings with some hip openers as well. We will do poses like splits, wide leg forward fold, low lunge and we begin and end with a short meditation. I hope you enjoy this practice :)

What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is often called the Yoga of the joints because unlike other styles of yoga, the emphasis is not on the muscles but on the deep connective tissue. Connective tissue is made up of fascia, ligaments and tendons which surround and form your joints. Yin yoga improves the range of motion in your joints and also strengthens them. The results and benefits are more flexibility and greater range of motion and also more stability within your joints.

There are 3 principles of Yin Yoga.
1. Find your edge
2. Be still
3. Hold the pose

Use as many props as needed in Yin Yoga! Blocks, bolsters and straps are all great ways to support your body to make sure you are respecting your edge and not going too far.

Hands down my favourite kind of yoga. Long intense holds, extended periods of silence with only my breath sounding like the ocean and my mind clear.

Always feel amazing afterwards. Like I've had a massage and therapy all at once :) highly recommend.

Kassandra, I have MS and I run, so my hips and hamstrings need daily stretching. This is my go to half hour for before a run, when back spasms get bad, and for when I’m feeling too tired for yoga (which is when I need it most). Thank you for this, it’s really made a difference.

styles of yoga day 17: we did a yoga session with my husband and I closed my practice with this video. I have never imagined I would be close to do a full split one day :) I would never have tried by myself. I love how trust into yoga and into you help me to just follow the process and do my best and find at the end that my body can do better than my head thinks. Amazing muscle therapy, coming from a guy who does tai chi, power yoga, bodybuilding with weights, and competitive running. I applied emu muscle cream before practicing this. Thanks Kassandra.

I love yin yoga classes, yoga is overall a great exercise for me, but yin is my favorite as I love feeling my body stretch, I have a lot of joint pains and this helps!

I LOVE this class- first of all the scenery is so beautiful and calming - Love the beach setting- water always clams me down. 2nd the class is just fantastic at opening your hips and hamstrings. My regular practice is Ashtanga but love yin yoga to balance things out and really take the time to relax and open up the fascia. YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER!
