Low back pain and spasms are not fun at all but if you learn how to treat them properly, you can feel much more comfortable faster! Spasms are typically caused by an injury or the body trying to protect itself from further injury. The muscles surrounding the spine tend to get very tight and it can often be difficult to move! Stretching is usually the first thing that is done but it is often the most ineffective because you are not going to override the nervous system. In addition, stretching can cause a reflexive spasm in which you stretch the lower back pain, and then afterward it may increase in spasm.
Instead of stretching, try to focus on being comfortable. Do some gentle movements, lay down, and relax your lower back. During this phase of pain, it's really all about relaxing the body, decreasing the spasms, and threat to the nervous system, and you will be rewarded with less discomfort. In some cases, people can be having some electrolyte or hydration issues so we recommend LMNT packs.
