This beautiful guided yoga nidra meditation is designed to promote a deep level of relaxation. Drift off into a deep restful sleep as you progressively relax, soften and release each part of your body. This release of tension induces total relaxation at ALL levels...physical, mental and emotional. Some say that an hour of Yoga Nidra can be just as restorative as four hours of regular sleep. The soft-spoken soothing female voice along with the calming sleep music and peaceful ocean waves will have you drifting off to sleep in no time! PLEASE NOTE: The kind of Yoga Nidra I share in this video is created to fully embrace the restful state that it brings to help you drift off to sleep (if this is your intention only). Not all yoga teachers, however, take this approach. Many yoga instructors encourage their yoga nidra students to not fall asleep and to stay fully aware through the whole meditation. Jennifer Piercy (Yogic Sleep Expert, Educator & Mentor) speaks about how Yoga Nidra is about awareness and NOT clinging to waking. She states that sleep isn’t about losing consciousness, instead, sleep is PART of consciousness. So if you prefer to stay awake, aware and alert then you don't have to fall asleep while listening :) You can make the intention to be fully aware through the meditation and return back to your activities once the meditation is over :) However if you do want to use this as a sleep aid then go ahead and embrace the deep restful state it will bring to help you fall asleep!
I think it is important to know that people may have different opinions about whether Yoga Nidra can be used for sleep. I personally feel it's okay to have differences :). It is important to find what works best for our own well-being. After all, that's what matters the most in the end. :)
