When someone says a Narcissist cannot change, they are referring to changing from their true Narcissistic self to someone else, a better self. Them initially changing from being charming (fake) to controlling (Narcissistic) was never a change that was just them finally revealing their true colours.

The worst thing they do is offer you what you've always wanted in the beginning, and then taking it away and mocking and degrading you. It would have been better if they had never shot down your dream by never having offered it in the first place.

One of the most truthful things my ex-narc told me was "I can't tell you the truth....". In context, he told me this after I confronted him about lieing about seeing someone said he couldn't tell me the truth about it because I would get upset. He took his lie and deceit and turned it around to make it seem like it was my fault. He is lost and dark.

This is so true! I don’t recognize the person I am divorcing from. It’s like two different people. The one in the beginning and the one in the end.
