The headbutt is probably one of the most devastating strikes for self defense. It can literally throw an opponent on the floor in seconds and leave him knocked out with one single strike.

How to do a proper headbutt though is an important fight tip that you must learn. If it's not done right, you can injure yourself badly.

There are a couple of ways that you can launch a headbutt. You can grab the back of the neck of your opponent and launch it from there. That can be a dangerous move, because as soon as you grab your attacker, he will most likely be ready for an incoming strike and could flinch as the headbutt is coming.

Therefore, you could land your headbutt on the top if his head causing injuries for you. You want to land the headbutt in the facial area of your opponent and to do that successfully, it's best if launched in a surprising way.

Use the element of surprise and launch your strike quickly using the power of your hips. That strike will be very difficult to stop for your attacker.

That strike should help you end a fight in a few seconds! Be careful though... Use it only for self defense purposes.

I'm really liking these videos so far. One problem I have had is that I'm lost in the world of self defense. I don't know where to start and I don't know who I can trust. Also I never understood how people headbutt without suffering head injuries.

I love headbutts. Thanks to you I feel that I can actually defend myself when the time comes. Tokyo can be dangerous sometimes contrary to what most people believe and I do know enough Japanese to de-escalate the situation. Always a pleasure to see your videos.

As always great technique and extremely effective, if not downright lethal, in a street fight situation; after all, it is possible to literally drive the nasal bone into the brain. The only problem I have with it is the psychological barrier (I.e. the inner humanity) getting in the way of executing the move effectively; because chances are you could easily kill someone with an attack like that. Hence, anyone with a shred of humanity in them might hesitate when executing the move and not deliver an effective blow. In other words, adequate psychological preparation is a big part of this as well. So knowing when to opt for a move like this, and be comfortable with its delivery and consequences, is just as important as knowing the technique itself. This is one street fighting move that must be reserved for the extreme, life or death, situation; specially, since legal and moral consequences could be horrendous.

Forget head butts. Useless. Was doing a restraint at work last night. Dude head butted me in the face several times. Got a nice cut under my eye that required closing but didn’t stop me from fighting.
