Hi, My name is Diana Chen, and I'm a Pediatric pulmonologist at UCLA.
What are the most common questions I get from my patients is "How do I keep my kids from getting sick?"
Now the number one prevention in preventing spread of germs or cold is good hand hygiene.
What I mean is you want to wash your hands frequently and correctly to prevent colds
Now there are five steps for good hand washing
First, step one is you want to wash the palms of your hands with soap or alcohol-based rub
Step two is washing the back of your hands
step three is making sure you get in between your fingers
Step four, making sure you wash the tips of the fingers
and step five is making sure you get your thumbs
Germs are spread by dirty hands so practicing good hand hygiene washing your hands frequently and correctly can prevent the spread of germs and colds in your household

Proper hand hygiene is crucial for maintaining good health, and Dr. Diana Chen's insights from UCLA Health are invaluable. Using products like Sterloc HOCl sanitizer can effectively eliminate germs without harsh chemicals, making it a great choice for safe and thorough hand cleaning. This ensures you're protecting yourself and others from illness, supporting overall well-being.

A post regarding Wuhan has become pretty popular on Reddit linking this video. I decided to take a look because I was fairly confident in my handwashing/process documentation abilities. It sounds superfluous and easy to skip over if it's second nature to you but in this video they forgot to put when you should wet your hands. As someone who has yet to see anyone wash their hands correctly, it's at the beginning and the end. Following the same steps for lathering. I would ask that this get remade before it starts causing trouble but I realize that this cannot always be done and would ask for at least some notation on the video.

2 mistakes? It is one of the best videos but I am shocked that the doctor made two mistakes 1) She did not instruct the people to scrub under the fingernails, 2) she did not say that the hands must be air-dried or dried on a CLEAN towel because dirty towels will reinfect your hands with millions of germs and viruses!

NOBODY BRINGS UP GETTING UNDER THE NAILS OR KEEPING THEM TRIMMED AS LOW AS IS COMFORTABLE. This is not the time for manicures and long nails. Try getting out in the dirt in your garden and you'll see later just how much work it takes to get the dirt out of the creases and under your nails even with a great nail brush

Thanks for the info!

This video is mercifully for the benefit of those who never made it past 6 years old, cognitively. Those who need someone in an authority position to remind them to wash their hands after they wipe their poopy butt or go pee-pee and many whose parents never taught them basic personal hygeine. (Sorry all you 6 year olds, at least you DO have an excuse)!

P.S. These folks must be the same ones who choose not to obey the basic traffic law which requires a driver to come to a COMPLETE stop at the STOP sign- it even tells you what to do, in huge letters, viz, STOP! A toughie for many to perform, yes, but it's in every Drivers' Handbook.

Sneeze/cough. Do NOT sneeze/cough into your hands. Instead, sneeze, cough into your elbow.

Too many people don't wash their hands properly. Like, too little soap or rubbing the bar of soap on their hands while water is pouring in, which guarantees the soap goes away as soon as it gets on the skin.

Me, I wet my hands first and rub to loosen dirt, rub the soap in to create a lather, add a bit more water to create a richer lather, make sure all surfaces get a good rubbing, then rinse.

This video is fine but it's like it simply lengthened one step to five steps, failing to mention the other steps like creating a lather, etc.
