Drop sets ALONE increased by bench press by 50 pounds. I was stuck on 185 for months. Learned about drop sets, incorporated then every other week when I bench press and now I just did 255 for reps. I recommend drop sets to anyone that wants to pass their platues

If you get stuck on the bench, I would switch to dumbbells for a bit, work on the incline and decline bench press, and put in a lot of work on just the triceps. Should help you out on the normal bench press. Working on shoulders, and working on both explosive, and on nice and slow bench pressing will also help.

Great advice, I did this recently training for strength 3-5 reps once day and training for hypertrophy another day in the week. That broke me through big time!

Paused benches are good for the bottom part of the lift, pause for 2 seconds at the chest before pressing, you will have to go light as hell in the beginning. Floor presses are great for both portions of the lift imo

so true i was getting strength advances quickly when i started, adding weight getting comfortable, adding more getting comfortable. now its slowed down. no more adding.. starting to feel a simple youtube channel isnt enough for this guy. Knowledge is priceless an the ability to talk that intrigues people is a talent.

If you're skinnier you are more likely to struggle at bench. At 140lbs my squat and dead are both over 380, but my bench is only 160. Bench is a struggle (for me personally)

To improve your bench press, use the rubber band or the chain method. A gym in California is offering a video to improve bench press. Some member of their gym are bench press record holder.

I'm not the biggest dude at all (I weight 135 lb) and my bench press was really low (I don't know how you guys add up the stuff but I had 1 plate of 20 on each side when I began lifting and this was 5 months ago) but I'm proud to say I can now lift 1 plate of 45 on each side whilst doing 5x5 :) And Elliot's tips helped me out a lot :D

for those interested, bill starr's 5x5 program incorporates a good mixture of rep ranges: 5x5 for day 1, then 4x5, 1x3, and 1x8 for day 3. I've also found that adding 3 volume lifts each day for a specific muscle group really keeps the plateauing at a minimum.

Mixing it up is the key, at least for me. I haven't worked out in a few years, but when I did, switching between barbell press and dumbbell press helped me.

Working on super slow negatives has always worked for me. Concentrating on the contraction and negative are easy things to forget, but they make a big difference in gaining muscle

I recently choose to eliminate flat bench from my routine. Too risky for the shoulders. I replaced it with decline bench, and so far I am excited about the switch. My lower , and mid, chest muscles feel far more activated with decline over flat

I was used to just bench pressing with strenght, but didnt increas my bench press at all. So i changed to a mix of strenght and volume. Did train chest twice a week. Done it for a month or so, and my bench press increased alot in just a month. So i've basically done what you told in a month now, and it works.

Changing the variables of the workout is usually the best method. As much as it helps physically, it's also a great approach from a psychological standpoint. Stagnating at a certain rep range, and switching to a different one that you then improve on, helps tremendously when reverting back to the old range.
