Guys tricep doesn't have any effect on changing the wrist rotation. Underhand and overhand doesnt change the tention to long and short both work for short head(lateral) mainly but also works long. Better to do tricep pushdown with neutral hand position by rope. (Sorry for bad english)

For anyone wondering this info is outdated. U can still hit them this way but the long head gets worked more when the elbows are aligned with your body. The lateral head is worked when your elbows are in front of your body

these tips are great, but for advice for new people on the gym, working out is purely trial and error
some excercises are great for some people, but for you maybe they wont give you the results you want, so you just gotta keep trying everything and see what works for you and what doesn't, but always train hard, if its not hurting, then its not working

The long head part isn’t completely true though, you use your long head the most when you have your arms at your side. The long head comes from the scapula, meaning for a full contraction you have to extend the elbow and the shoulder joint as well. For the long head, one-hand tricep extensions with a cable while your arm is at your side is the most optimal contraction point. The two other heads are contracted whenever you extend the elbow regardless of the shoulders’ position.

Using underhand or over hand for tricep push downs doesn’t target different heads it’s just preference which one feels better is the one you should do
