FYI Charleston SC is an hr and 45 minutes away from Columbia and has at least 4 different beaches. Just so the information is actually accurate.

I just move here to South Carolina from New York and I love it out here in Columbia. Yes, the summer heat is the worst but yet there are more summer days than winter compares to NY. The hospitality is great and the people are great. I drove in NY and every state drivers are the worst everywhere. Every state has its good, bad and ugly. I'm here to stay in Columbia S.C.

Don't forget the South Carolina Gamecocks annual Super Bowl every year vs the Clemson Tigers in football. The entire state shuts down and tune in for that one, it's a heated rivalry.

The nearest beach is not Myrtle Beach! Charleston, Hilton Head and Beaufort have beaches that are less than 3hrs away. I mean SC is a shoreline state which means we have a lot of beaches.

On taxes, SC is one of 4 States that allows debt collector's to go after unpaid medical bills via the state income tax refunds including penalties which really sucks.

Been in Columbia 9 years and moved from a very small town in SC. I have had no issues in Columbia. Just be smart about where and when you interact just like any other place.

I was in Columbia for 6 months for work and it is not a bad place at all. It has bad areas and good areas just like any other city but it was enjoyable to me.
