My mom (T2D for many years) has just been eating a ketogenic diet for 2 mo. and has already reduced her a1c level and no longer has to take injections at night and reduced the amount for her morning injection! So encouraging!! I only learned recently that T2D can be reversed!!

I have heard that even whole grains spike blood sugar! Enjoy your videos. You are a skilled presenter with a natural, personal-like manner of delivery.

If you've been a diabetic for some time and are still having problems consider a Keto diet.
It works well, but you need to stick to it, or use a modified version if you just can't do without carbs.

The best advice for diabetics is a low carbohydrate diet. I eat less than 30g of carbs a day and only vegetables. My HbA1c as a type one diabetic ranges from 4.5 to 4.9% for many years. Eating fruits and grains will raise blood sugars and not only raise your HbA1c but set you in a path for complications. I think diabetics should strive for the same healthy levels non diabetics have, less than 5.0%.

Spot on!!! I was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic 7 years ago. For the past 4 years my A1C consistently sits between 5.5 - 6 mmol/ml. Every point you've made on how to control Type 2 Diabetes I follow and for those reading this it WORKS!!! I have seen the most success using the Paleo lifestyle, exercise and intermittent fasting. Initially I was on Metformin as a medication, however today I have this under control 100% with my lifestyle. One point that I like to share when discussing this topic is that I have had friends make the comment that I have cured myself of this illness. I don't like to think this way as this gives the impression that I can go back and start eating whatever I want etc. Being "cured" means it does not exist. Even though I have this illness under control and by looking at my current blood work you would not know I am a diabetic I will "always" be a Type 2 Diabetic for the rest of my life and will continue to keep this under control with lifestyle choices.

Thank you for highlighting the difference between symptom and cause, and then addressing the cause. It is such a rare treat to hear a doctor make that distinction. You are amazing ❤️

With diabetes I find that KETO diet and intermittent fasting really helped me. Insulin for me is the sugar storing [as fat] trigger. I reduced my insulin and I lost weight

Hi Doc. Have been type 2 Diabetic 25 years, The last 18 months my HBA1C has been between 42 and 47 with no medication. 20 years on medication HBA1C was all over the show
even in the 70s. High fat very low Carb, intermitant fasting + fasting 40hrs 1/ week, low glycemic load foods which just about cuts out friut, just a few berries and exersice 10km walk/ day. Started this 18 months ago with getting rid of my eating disorder first and lost
14 kgs in 6 weeks going from 80 kgs to 66 kg. Then started fasting and then exersice and have found it very easy to maintain with great benfits along the way. I understand all that
you say to be very helpfull in control of type 2 Diabetes but just be carefull of sweet friut.
I stick to lemons, limes and ACV + low Glycemic berries.

Thank you so much for your channel. I was diagnosed as type 2 just before Christmas. There is so much conflicting information online, but it’s wonderful to be given straightforward, practical details from a trusted source. Thank you again, and please keep up the good work!

Always a pleasure to see a new video from you, Dr. Sam! I switched to a LCHF, 20:4 IF lifestyle 2 years ago. Everything is good with my health today. Plus, I'm 39 kilos lighter & as fit as I was in my 20's! Like you said, I treated the cause and not the symptom.
Thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍👍👍👍

I did this for mum. I took her off metformin and insulin and she lost weight. But giving her the right diet was almost cruel to her. I was always arguing and denying her food because she was always hungry. Not because she was calorie restricted but because she was receiving an appropriate diet. But she lost weight, reversed some aspects of her dementia. She no longer falls regularly, but, unfortunately, retained other damages caused by sugar (eyes/feet etc). I am not totally cruel; anything goes on the weekend.

Carbs are a problem, but fructose is especially bad. Fructose can ONLY be processed in the liver, while glucose can be used by all tissues. Hence fructose tends to generate insulin resistance IN THE LIVER, which is especially dangerous since the liver is so central to metabolism; if the liver isn't responding to insulin, then everything is off throughout your system. Sugar is half glucose, and half fructose.

“Your health is determined by one equation. The proportion of fat versus sugar you burn in your lifetime. The more fat you burn for fuel, the healthier you will be. The more sugar you burn, the less healthy you will be”
