Often we get questions from members and viewers about how to lower their hemoglobin A1c. Their doctor may have told them to eat less carbs or lose weight, but the advice is general and not very helpful.

This video gives you 5 specific things you can do, and explains why to do them, to lower your A1c. Plus you’ll hear from actual people who were able to lower theirs and prevent the need for diabetes medications.

An optimal A1c is 5.5% or less. The prediabetic range for A1c is 5.7% to 6.4%. The diabetic range is 6.5% or above.

Often your doctor won’t really address your blood glucose levels until they are in the diabetic range. But so much can be done to lower them before you need medications.

And so much can be done once you’re on medications to reduce your amount of get rid of them altogether.

As a disclaimer, the advice I’m going to give needs to put through your own common sense test.

If I say something and you think, “Whoa I could never do that,” then ask yourself what you could do to get just a little bit better in this area.

Ultimately, you’ve got to find a lifestyle that is sustainable that keeps insulin and inflammation low to lower and maintain a healthy A1c.

1. Eat 50-80 grams of carbs per day.
2. Intermittent fasting and calorie restrictions.
3. Walk 10 minutes after each meal.
4. Take Berberine supplements.
5. Get 7-8 hrs of sleep per night.

You are welcome!

I used to do that, I would walk 15 minutes after snack, and then 30 minutes after lunch, I do healthy keto and fasting. I have lost 67 lbs. I was on Ozempic. I have not taken it since October and have not gained back any of my weight

I changed my A1c within two weeks, from 5.1 to 4.5.
First week keto diet with two meals and 14 hours fasting.
Second week low carb diet with approximately 150 carb a day.
One tablespoon apple cider vinegar before each meal, 30 min fast walking after 15 min of finishing each meal(total 1 hour walking daily)
I lose 4 kg weight as well.
It was really easy pizzy cheesy
I had to lower my A1c because l am pregnant and in week 6 l knew my blood sugar is on the borderline so l don’t want to get gestational diabetes.

In addition, remove from your diet sugar, corn syrup, seed oil based cooking oils and any form of processed food. Moderate exercise daily for 45 minutes with a heart rate of 120 bpm.

I laugh when she says, "take berberine under the guidance of a health care professional." Yeah, right. Listening to my doctor is what got me stuck in the 4 injections of insulin per day. They dont want you to get better... they would have nobody to prescribe medication to and wouldn't be able to schedule all the office visits and blood work that goes along with sickly patients. Doctors take more pride in their bank account balance than the number of clients that they actually help.

My A1C is 5.7 but my doctor said I do not have pre diabetes. He wants another blood test to confirm but he said I am ok.I was so sad and not eating and suicidal. He yelled at me good and told me to stop reading everything online.I got a wake up call.I quit drinking soda and will eat healthy and only once a month have fast food.I will drink sweet tea once every other week and drink no sugar tea and more water.Fruits and salads also.I was terrified.Thank God I am going to be ok and stay that way.

The question is - WHY aren’t MD / PCPs addressing PreDiabetes aggressively? This issue is 100% a massive and destructive health issue

Great video, so very h helpful, thank you. I eat 30 g a day for pre diabetes, and the HBA1C has gone down, but I have lost 15 pounds, and I weigh 94lbs now. I did not need to loose weight. So now I eat more protein and healthy fats, and that is helping.

Eat 10-18 grams of Carbs per day (BBBE and occasionally dairy).
Sleep very well, organic/fasting/sober, only drink water (last 30 years)
Exercise walking daily and other things over the last 50 years. Love exercise.
A1C 6.4% 1 year ago (after 5 years of Keto/Ketovore). 6 months blood test
this week and A1C is at 6.5% Also Creatine BUN went up too.
Gave up coffee on 1/1/24 for the 3rd time now in 8 years.
This is very hard and I am a lifelong, very health-disciplined person at every level.

I learned I was pre-diabetic with an A1c of 5.8 at the end of 2023. (I didn’t even know such a thing existed). Using Carb Manager app, I went on a keto diet which restricted my carbs to 15 g and currently to 13 g. daily; lost 20 pounds. This week April 2, had my A1c test (non fasting) redone after three months on Keto with no cheats. The last week in March, had my fasting blood glucose tested. It came in at 99 from 105 - healthy but “just”. I was expecting a reading in the 80s. But the real devastating result was my A1c INCREASED to 5.9! I was so confident that it would be around 5.5! Cannot see my nutritionist nor primary care physician until the end of April. Felt totally lost, on a runaway train to Type 2 but have regrouped and developed a new plan which will hopefully get me out of prediabetes state. Why would my fasting glucose decrease but my A1c increase? Could there be an error in the test? Do I need to wait three more months to retest my A1c? In the meantime, I went back through all my blood work from previous years and saw I had an A1c of 5.7 in 2020!! Like you said, no one told me about the test results and what it meant. Thank you for all your information.

I would love to hear how this 'works' relative to hypothyroidism. Would be much appreciated.

I'm on my feet for the majority of my day. Walking around the shop or yard looking for vehicles and climbing on them or underneath them. Plus the one hour at work for PT and I do lift weights once a week for about an hour. My job is quite physical at times depends on what I'm working on that day.

I also had a back injury last year and was unable to work out or maintain my physical activity. I was told I was diabetic this year and at no time was diet discussed and was immediately put on 1000mg of metformin that instantly gave me headaches and made me light headed. Then Jardiance that has done the same. I cannot work this way with a headache all day long.

I did change my diet after I was told this and dropped my A1c from 7.1 to 6.7 with no meds. I have yet to go back to my doctor to see where I'm at. Been busy with just life. Getting back to my normal routine I have never felt better. I also have never felt like shit with the medication I was given.

I think doctors are getting frustrated with the obesity/diabetes epidemic. I am sure they are encouraging people to eat better and exercise every day and it falls on deaf ears. People need to take responsibility for their own health don’t leave it all up to the doctor.

Carbohydrates (any carbohydrates) convert to glucose immediately after consumption. We do not need to eat carbohydrates - they are non-essential and raise blood glucose levels. I haven't eaten any carbs for years. Our body produces all the glucose it needs through
gluconeogenesis (the liver produces it).

I found your presentation, very informative and beneficial.
You are an excellent communicator and narrator, and being very attractive, only helps.

Berberine while taking metformin is ok?

I’ve done just about everything you mentioned in the last few years since my doctor told me to get off sugar a few years ago. I also work out a lot for my age. I’m 66 and I’m a cyclist and doing over 100 miles a week since I retired last year. . Also do some floor exercises and stretching has really become important. My weight is pretty stable but I did have to give up intermittent fasting and introduce some more carbs because I was bonking on bike rides over 40 miles. I guess I will have to look into Berberine.
