Shoulder Mobility 🧬

The butcher box stretch is probably one of the “best” stretches we can do to release tight shoulders and improve our ability to get our arms overhead.

Here is a demonstration of how to involve different areas of our body. Let me explain.

🟢 Shoulders: by keeping a posterior tilt of the pelvis and light abs contraction (our spine remains rounded or straight) we emphasize the stretch into the shoulders. The main muscle put into stretch here will be the Latissimus Dorsis. I’d focus on this variation if you want to isolate the stretch on the shoulders and/or work towards your handstand as it resembles the same spine and shoulder position.

🟡 Spine: we can then arch the spine and allow our chest to drop. Our shoulders will still get a deep stretch, but now we are also improving spine extension which can be useful for movements like Hollow Back Handstand. The main muscle stretching when we arch the spine will be the Rectus Abdominus (your abs)

🔴 Triceps: finally we can bring the stick towards our back. Here we get a deep stretch into all 3 heads of our triceps since we are performing the opposite of both of its functions which are elbow extension, and shoulder extension. This one is intense but can be stretching the triceps in this position can be extremely useful for people struggling to get their arm overhead.

📝 Note: the anatomy graphic IS NOT representative of the muscles being stretched, but rather the joints (except for the triceps which is the actual muscle put under stretch)

Надо угол скруглить у ящика или возле дивана, кресла выполнять кому неймётся.
Я тащусь когда гимнасты или акробаты советуют пожилым делать ценные упражнения. Демонстрируя гибкость и растяжку.

Be careful guys. I'm very flexible and recently subluxated my shoulder doing a movement similar to this. Don't push yourself too far too quickly!
