DR. MINDY’S NOTES:

What's the purpose of IF?
-to make you metabolically fit
-move someone sugar to fat burner

Are there varying degrees of metabolically unfit?
-Yes

What factors do you have to consider?

1.How much stored sugar?
2.Toxic load
3.Health of organs like Liver
4.Microbiome
5.Stress levels

Challenges with this study:

1.Did they address all these factors? No
2.Did they control how much they ate when not fasting? No
3.Did they vary the fasting time and window to create a hormetic effect on mito? No
4.Who he tested: men & women age 18-64 (too broad)

What they should have done:
1.Controlled what they ate, their stress levels, sleeping patterns, make up of microbiome
2.Varied their fasting times
3.Investigation on what caused the people to be obese

Other issues that Dr. Weiss points out:
Need more human studies? YES
Muscle Mass loss: deplete muscle mass? Yes, it’s a hormetic effect and if you combine it with a protein cycling or strength training

“Just losing weight alone doesn’t mean good things are happening for your health,

My take away:
1.IF is a door into weight loss
2.It needs to be paired with food changes & variation
3.The goal for weight loss needs to get metabolically fit
4.Some of you only need one step for MF and some will need a lot more than that
5. Careful how much you believe headlines, you need to dive deeper into the study and be your own research.

Dr. Mindy I have been on keto and intermittent fasting for about a month. I first gave up sugar and then saw your blogs. I now have lost 24 pounds. This is easier than I thought it would be. I had breast cancer a few yeard ago and had chrmo and radiation. Was left with neuropathy in my hands and feet. Believe it or not it is going away. Also I had some arthritis various places and it is much better. I am 74 years old and am feeling much better. Thank you for your channel

I’ve lost weight on nearly all diets I’ve ever done, however, Intermittent fasting has been the only way I have been able to keep my weight off. 3 years of being at my early 20 s weight.

They have that article because they don’t want people fasting because grocery stores will lose money. It’s all about money not our well being.

I lost 34 pounds in 9 months, I need to defend myself everyday cause people think I’m starving myself. You need to stop dieting now ! I’m not on a diet !!! When I try to explain IF they are just not interested cause you can’t skip meals .. it’s not healthy.
I love IF and continue my journey, being healthy!!

Intermittent fasting, along with the elimination of refined carbs and sugar, has completely transformed both my husband and me for the better!! We’ve each lost more than 20 lbs., and we’ve been able to maintain our weight loss for months. My husband had been a type 2 diabetic for many years and was able to reverse it and get off of both of his diabetes medications (with his doctor’s approval) in just the first few weeks! We both look and feel better than we have in years! I never would have believed it could be this easy. THANK YOU for all you do!! 🥰

My eyesight has improved i have lost weight, I was over weight and always put myself off from exersing now im in a routine of my daily walks, nd much more benefits i have gained from fasting . Thank you Dr Mindy love all your vedios your information is MIRACULOUS ♥️😊

I love Intermittent fasting - I've lost 63 pounds in this past year and my body feels really good. I am 65 years old and a diabetic 2. I combine fasting with cutting carbs bot not eliminating them. In my eating "window" I eat relatively the same things as I always did but smaller portions. It definitely works for me.

I've been trying to lose weight for 2 years.
At the start of my journey it took me about 6 months to lose 6 lbs, I'm not big or anything but I have a bit excess body fat. I was eating healthy, watching calories and I was using the gym 3 days a week for 1.5 hours a time, and I was walking a lot between all that. It didn't work! I built some muscle but barely any fat loss (no it wasn't fat loss and muscle gain, I measured weight and body's physical measurements too, there was very little change)

Anyway last year I had to have surgery and stopped the exercise, gained that weight back immediately.
A few months ago I started IF instead, at just 16-18 hours. Didn't make much of a difference either and I felt so upset and frustrated with myself. I kept going but nothing happened.
Then I read something that said to make the fast longer, some people need a larger reset. So 3 weeks ago I started doing 22-24 hour fasts and I tell you after 2 days I lost a couple of lbs right away!!
I have stuck to it (with breaks on weekends) and I've continued to lose weight, I've lost more in these 3 weeks than I lost in 6 months of hard training and dieting. And I've barely exercised, I've just don't some walking, nothing strenuous.
I figure now, I just needed that nudge with a larger fast.
Nothing else worked!

I love fasting! It has given me hope when I had none. I actually learned portion control and real hunger vs emotional hunger because of fasting.

I saw that study being regurgitated thru news sites. Read one for mere fun, mind you, and was like ummm no. Two yrs ago I lost 130 in 8 mths w IF, clean keto eating, walking, HIIT, then OMAD and 2-3 day fasts thrown in. Cleaned up any skin issues i.e., pesky moles, inflammation went so fibromyalgia was buh bye. While I still do have a chronic illness...I tamed the beast. Thanks Dr. Mindy! Keep on keeping onnn.
