In the spirit of "Batch Cook, " a whole chicken is the most cost-effective way to buy chicken, and really is the gift that keeps on giving. Not only do you get a lot of meat, but the bones, fat and skin can be boiled into a hearty stock or bone broth that puts store-bought cartons to shame. You can easily freeze it and use it later to enhance all kinds of dishes.

I find buying large bags of frozen berries to be a great savings; I also do the same for certain veggies that I want to remain fresh past a week (frozen broccoli, edamame beans, mixed veggies)

I took an online course many years ago and one of the exercises was making a list of staple items that could be swapped for homemade to save money. Hummus, yogurt, broth, sauerkraut, kombucha, condiments, nut milk, etc. She recommended picking one or two items to start with and calendaring what needed to be done. I had just read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver at the time, so I was super into making a much homemade and local as possible, and it was a fun learning curve!
I'm really excited to check out the book you mentioned, and this video has me recharged to tackle my food budget. Thank you for coming from a perspective of someone who likes to eat well!!
