After breaking his leg, undergraduate student Luke Durward used his time to return home and mentor his little brother on healthy eating. While illustrating his brother's dramatic transformation, Durward shares the obvious secret that is repeatedly overlooked by unsuccessful dieters.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Save yourself time, he just said don't keep bad foods in your house so they aren't a temptation. You're welcome.

Public speaking arguably induces the most anxiety I have ever felt.. I literally felt axiety watching him forgetting his train of thought. Props to him for getting through it.

I like that he had a brain block, pointed it out, took a moment, gathered his thoughts and got back into it! The talk in general is amazing!

I watch this and I clench my fists in frustration because I've been saying this very thing to my family for YEARS but I live in a household averse to change or progress... I've been overweight all of my life and suffered through many years of bullying and mental anguish all because my parents resorted to buying junk food out of convenience. If you are a parent reading this PLEASE give your child the gift of healthy eating from an early age and save them from all their potential suffering

You can tell this one leads a healthy lifestyle. I won't judge his presentation skills. Everyone one here seems to feel superior enough to cast that stone. I do admire his courage. There something to be said for feeling the fear and doing it anyway even if the results are not what you hoped.

so many comments saying stop judging him because he went in front of a big crowd that i cant find the comments actually judging him

Clearly he's not super comfortable with public speaking but kudos for him for soldiering through it, and getting up there and facing what is a huge point of anxiety for many people and good for him for helping out his younger brother.

Way to go Luke, you handled that brain-block" masterfully! You took a breather, allowed the audience to commiserate, and continued on even though you lost your flow a little. You showed amazing control over your nervousness and spoke very clearly and well.

Are people really criticizing this undergraduate student who came up and spoke in front of a decent sized crowd without a script or teleprompter?

the best part of his talk is he made me realize that its very important to raise kids who can support their siblings in such a powerful way. the world is not going to be a lonely place anymore. secondly he taught a lesson that this formula applies in every temptation. food, relationship, any kind of desire. throw it out for a certain time out of your mind and life and fill with something everlasting and see the results. good job buddy.

Very touching. The love he has for his brother is so evident. How much care he took to make life better for him, all the while on crutches!❤️

He's up there to give a message, not an amazing speech. Humans are cruel creations of nature and tend to always have something negative to say over the internet.. I wouldn't mind them. What you were TALKING about was more important than performing. Thank you!

I love how he talks about what he did and his idea with such passion. And I think that the fact that he got through with the speech even though he had some brain block was amazing. I find it inspiring that someone can overcome his nerves in order to talk in front of a big audience about something for the greater good. Besides, the message can help others like me to eat healthier. It is a valid suggestion and idea. So, thank you for overcoming the brain block and talking about your experience. Congrats.

This really hits me hard because my little brother is way overweight and I didn’t know what to do until this video. Thank you Luke, you’ve saved my guilt and saved my brother from bullies and possible depression

"To be successful, you have to minimize the difficult decisions being made." That banged me and bonded everything in one punch.

I think his presentation was just fine. He's young and inexperienced at public speaking but he had a message to share and that's exactly what he did. Well done.

This was great! I don’t even know him and I felt so proud of him for this talk and his love for his brother. He is so right. I’ve been doing this over the last two weeks and I’m seeing results.
