Vitamin D Deficiency (Part 2) | Hyperparathyroidism, Clinical Features (ex. Osteoporosis), Diagnosis, Treatment

This is part 2 in a series on Vitamin D deficiency. In this lesson, we continue with our discussion on Vitamin D deficiency, including hypocalcemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism, clinical features including myalgias & arthralgias, and complications like rickets and osteoporosis. We also discuss methods to diagnose (mild, moderate and severe vitamin D deficiency), and ways to treat it.

This is a very complex topic that definitely requires more discussion! Again, I’m not entirely satisfied with this lesson, so please let me know if you found it helpful!

I'm over here thinking I have bone cancer, I've probably just been D deficient for YEARS. Had all of these symptoms. Bone pain, muscle pain and twitches. Scary stuff when you have an anxiety disorder 😭😄

My joints were inflammed all the time, bones felt old. Couldn't lose weight with exercise. Mind was extremely scattered and could not focus, and my muscle would twitch. I just started taking D3 every day as well as Ergocalciferol weekly because i was extremely deficient in vitamin D. I feel great after about 2 months. Who knew i was just deficient in vitamin D.

I work nightshift, have for two years. Otherwise healthy but recently had some blood tests done and have shown VD deficiency. Symptoms were severe tiredness, sleeping from friday morning to saturday night only to wake for a small meal then back to bed until sunday afternoon. Dermatitis on my brow and legs, hair loss on my legs in patches, depression, bone aches especially in my ankles and wound healing from minor work related scrapes and cuts took ages to heal. Taking VD now and making sure I see the sun, all good 1 week later

Having low vitamin D can cause hormonal imbalance in men, such as low testosterone and whole body hair loss which knows as alopecia which is mostly triggered by a vitamin D deficiency!

I had symptoms of Vit D deficiency I have not seen discussed. I developed allergy to almost all kinds of food, except rice and beef and after eating I would get very tired and after a few minutes develop bright red spots around my thighs all the way down to my feet but were not at all itchy. I went to 3 doctors and they were perplexed and one doctor finally said he could not help me and referred me to an allergist who had seen one other patient like me with the same symptoms that had Vit D deficiency. Tests showed I had very low Vit D. After taking Vit. D regularly since then, in 10 years I never had a cold again whereas I used to have a cold 2 or more times a year.

I hate this so much. I'm in pain all day. I tried being in the sun but I'm still in pain. This really makes me depressed and weak. I'm often very dizzy and get headaches. I tried different things to bring it up but its so hard. I've been like this for years.

I've had BPPV (vertigo) for 2..5 years. I have done physical therapy thus whole time. Still have balance issues. The doctor could never figure out why. He even gave me a lecture that drinking too much alcohol can make you dizzy. I don't drink. I just had myself tested and it turns out o have vitamin d defiency
I hope that it will correct my bppv.

I have been experiencing hair loss for a few months now, as well as being tired and dealing with full body weakness. In the last few weeks the weakness and lethargy have gotten worse, I've been having a lot of bloat, hot flasesh(feelin overheated), chills, cracking bones and my fibromyalgia, which was fine for a while, has been acting up, so I've been in quite a bit of pain. I've also gained quite a bit of weight and been super cranky. My Dr perscribed me a strong dose of Vitamin D, but what more natural ways can I get Vitamin D? I don't get outside much, so I don't get much sunlight and I also have a dairy allergy.

I'm a male started taking vitamin d because my finger nails started looking really bad. ( Internet suggestion) . I did a loading phase for 2 days. About 7 days later my nails back to healthy but I noticed my labido is really high. I thought I was crushing it with vitamin c... But I been missing something all along.

Hey I’m just curious for a lot of guys out there who saw there vitamin D levels meet the norm, did you guys also see a boost in testosterone? I’m currently diagnosed with low T and I just wanna find out if anyone else has seen any results from this before.

So I already have 2 autoimmune diseases, (alkaptonuria And HS), Stage 2 CKD, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, now diaogonsed gout, macrocystic anemia, High blood pressure, Possible csf leak, Degeneration of lumbar intervertebral disc, Restless leg syndrome, Peripheral venous insufficiency, History of malignant neoplasm of endometrium, Diastolic dysfunction, PVD, History of Helicobacter pylori infection, 3 different hernia from having Necrotising Factious after my hysterectomy for stage 2 endometrial cancer, (I need a total abdominal reconstructive surgery but have to get all enough to do so, hiatal hernia, Osteopenia, chronic kidney stone disease ( ive had over 100 in my lifetime since 18 and now 53, Fatty liver disease, nonalcoholic- thats getting worse as my liver is lager every ct scan, history of Hydatid cyst on my liver when living out of country for 10 years - 3 cysts removed during hysterectomy, and lymphedema stage/class I have had a total hip replacement 10 years ago, a total knee and shoulder replacement this year, and my back lol - I have 2 good discs that are not problematic and with each mri shows more and more detection with 5 herniated discs

I suspect I have lupus, but my health care provider just wont except it, he also said when I told him about horrible shoulder pain that my bra was causing it but after a year of complaints I had a complete slap tear with complete torn rotator cuff and bicep, my knee was diagnosed after another year of begging for referral that my labrum was completely torn, with bone spurs floating around, I went in for scope and ended up with replacement....

so I suspect lupus, actually leukemia too, dr is blowing me off, hair loss, teeth breaking, no sleep, brain fog but could be from possible csf leak -
I went to my care provider on Friday as I now have thrush again for 7 time this year, and my Vitamin d went from 49 six weeks ago to 12 yesterday! I feel horrible, I have severe congestion in my lungs, horrible head ache that worse when I lay down flat where the possible csf leak is better when I lay down, brain fog to the point I have to write down all my medication I take because I cant remember five mins later if I took them, joint pain so severe that I can hardly walk, and it has gotten better after my surgeries this year, chest pain, and ive gained 15 lbs in a week from swelling, stiffness in my neck to point I cant turn my neck, I cant touch my chin to my chest, if I try its very painful, and low grade fever for 6 months but has gone up to only 100.2 in last two days. But your video has given me the information I need to ask for a rheumatologist, I guess a new dr too becasue she told me vit d is in normal range, I so appreciate your video as I have to advocate for myself ..I dont take pain meds, I was put on depression meds last year but im not depressed, only aggravated I feel so bad. My life is stress free since I divorced 2 years ago.
