What Are Vitamin D Deficiency Symptoms? | Dr. Josh Axe

In this video, I’m going to talk about the benefits of vitamin D as well as symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. In certain studies, Americans have been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency.

Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more.

The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (BPA), and toxicity. Try to get outside every day for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight.

Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat.

For a good supplement, I would recommend a high-quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body.

I have been suffering for 5 years! My doctor told me I was just fat and that I needed to lose weight but I could barely moved I had pain everywhere in my body, dizzy spells, nausea, fatigue, headache, and brain fog. I became depressed and even suicidal. Yesterday I found out that my vitamin d levels are at an 8. I have been so sick! I will start taking vitamin d and I pray I will get my health back.

This is the truth. I am an African man and I live in the States. I was having all sorts of health problems and tried everything. All the scans and nothing worked. Then a friend of mine said to go do a test for vitamin D deficiency. Found out i was so low beyond critical. Got on vitamin D3 supplement and all my ailments went away.

I was so sick from my vitamin D deficiency that my doctor did all this blood work and we couldn't figure out what it was.. Finally my doctor called a psychologist (they thought I was depressed but I know my own body and I wasn't) and thankfully he recommended that we test my vitamin D.. Thank god he did because it was less than half of what it was supposed to be. I'm finally back up to a healthy level but my doctor still recommended that I continue taking 5, 000 units a day because I'm no where near to much.
Get your vitamin D checked!

I've been taking vitaminD 3days!!! I'm not sure but my anxiety is little bit gone away👀Perhaps it was caused by hormone balance. I do continue taking for a while!

Thank you Doctor. You explained everything so nicely. I've been told that I'm deficient of vit. D and this may be why I've been feeling so bad and tired . I bought some yesterday.

Great information. Seattlelites NEED to see this and believe more on those symptoms. Doctors NEED to see and medicate less and pay more attention to this deficiency. Thank you for posting💕

Great information! As a teen, my teeth enamel eroded and my bones were very weak to the point where dentists asked if I was bulimic. I also constantly felt freezing cold due to vitamin D deficiency. After prescribed high dosages of Vitamin D and going out in the sun for 45 minutes a day (even with sunscreen), these symptoms have greatly diminished. Also, I am not sure if there is sufficient research to back this up, but taking TURMERIC (curcumin) with many of my vitamins has greatly helped my health. Most times, nature is the nurture!

I just turned 30 last week and went in for my yearly check up and my blood results showed my vitamin D level at 13. I live in Ohio so it's not uncommon apparently but this explains the depressed, no sex drive I've been experiencing. I'm excited to get my levels to normal range.

I don't know if you have already done so, but if not, could you please do a video for Vegetarians regarding the vitamin supplements we need and how to know for sure what we need and the best ways to take them? I've been a vegetarian for almost twenty years and only in the last two years or so I have had some major deficiency issues. I had found a Dr. Who recognized the deficiencies and gave me B12 shots as well as supplements for my vitamin D and Anemia issues, but she retired after her third child and I haven't found another Dr like her that really listens to me and addresses my Vegetarian diet. Any suggestions or if you could do a video on the vegetarian diet and our supplemental needs would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for clarifying. Buying vitamins can be confusing with all the various choices. You know you need them...but often times I'm in the aisle like "Hun?" Thanks Dr. Axe!
