If you normally feel sleepy after your morning workout, it means you're doing something wrong. Exercise is supposed to make you feel alert and energized.

Thank you. This is what happened:
I got up too early too workout, so I was already sleepy.
And I possibly overdid it

Workout was at 9am and I've been incredibly tired all day long

Thank you so much. Exercising in the morning used to make me have so much energy for the rest of the day but now about 1.5 after my workout I just wanna lay down somewhere. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I had no idea why this was happening to me.

How to stay energised after working out

1. Get enough sleep : go to bed earlier, sleep 7-8h
2. Eat enough food : eat some natural protein and avoid processed food
3. Drink 1-2 glass of water BEFORE the workout : it will keep you energised and hydrated
4. Eat a banana or an apple before the workout : it can help you stay energised, and you don’t want to work out on an empty stomach
5. Reduce the intensity/the duration of your workout : Maybe you aren’t used to sport yet, but you can increase this gradually
6. Change the time when you exercise : If you are still feeling tired when you do it, it’s maybe because it’s just not the right time for you. Try it on the afternoon or even the evening so you can sleep.

I started strength training and I’m so tired afterwards. It’s really bad and makes it difficult to be consistent because I’m so afraid I’ll be exhausted after and won’t be able to do anything else that day. I need to try to shorten the workouts to see if that helps. Thanks for the tips

I have had to lessen exercise duration time lately due to poor quality sleep and many of your workouts are helpful for that. Doing that has helped me to lose weight, I think it has lessened cortisol for me. Thanks Brian

The problem 9/10 times is water.

I didn't drink water before working out and I did cardio and lifting.

I drank 350ml of water, ate 4 eggs, lite mayo and 3 slices of bread and drank and a coffee with milk. I felt like I was going to cut out immediately, till I drank another 350ml water, and the tiredness was reduced. Your body wants water!

Omg thank u so much for this! I just got home from the gym and I’m sleepy af and didn’t know why lol…it’s the first time I’ve experienced this and u told me why right off the bat! 1 and 2! I only ate a hot dog yesterday and slept like 3 hours cuz my anxiety kept me up! Working out helps me control my anxiety daily so I hate skipping but sometimes it’s so high at night I can’t sleep 😩…welp time for my nap lol

Thanks Brian. Been doing strength training for a year now and this is a persistent problem for me. I mostly eat plant-based with the occasional eggs every other week. I think I'll be trying yo eat a banana before exercising to see if that helps.

It doesn't necessarily stop you exercising but in my experience can make it hard to have a productive day and then feel the urge to snack on biscuits or cat nap to try and perk yourself up. I generally found that lower intensity exercise in the morning, say walking or moderate cycling on a flat course, and short high intensity work in the late afternoon or evening, say running, martial arts or cycling some fartlek's or some steep inclines, works for me. As said, better to be tired in the evening than in the morning. Very tempting though to go quite far or go hell for leather on a beautiful hot summers day, which is okay sometimes, but I'd never expect to get much else done on the same day as a good session, lasting say a few hours. I'd be done. I think it's also about having the discipline to cut it short, in order to have energy for other work or projects. There's always the option of doing another session, of a harder or gentler exercise, later in the day, I think, provided the training that you did in the morning wasn't intense, or the performance just wont be there, I find.

Thank you for this Brian. I've seen good results with a number of these tips. Currently my workout ability is at 10 minutes. Anything more than that in the resent past has left me feeling, exhausted, sleepy and even in pain, not the good kind, for 2-3 days.
QUESTION
With the 6 week challenge, will I be able to keep up and still get results?
