It’s widely thought that certain foods can trigger inflammation in diverticulitis.

In this video, I get to the bottom of the research regarding the foods to eat and avoid with diverticulitis, including a bonus topic that often goes under the radar!

A sneak peak into what you'll learn:
- Nuts, seeds and corn: do gastroenterologists ever find these when doing surgery on diverticula sacs?
- Alcohol and smoking: can you still enjoy a drink with diverticulitis?
- Red meat: does it increase your risk and can you eat it during a flare-up?
- Fiber
- Plus a BONUS TOPIC that often goes under the radar.

Good information especially work out your food intolerances. I have had diverticuli for many years and several bouts of diverticulitis. Reducing plant foods, particularly leaves and flowers eg broccoli, cauliflower, other brassicas, spinach etc as well as many fruits and all grains reduced my inflammation. I can immediately tell now when my gut is inflamed…discomfort, pain, stool changes etc. Small amount of gluten free oats the other day caused a 3 day upset 😮

So much talk but no mention of starting at the beginning of the digestive journey….properly chewing your food to begin with.

I can't eat eggs anymore, goes right thru me, was just diagnosed with diverticulitis n don't know what to eat anymore.Seems like everything blows my stomach up ridiculously. Just had surgery for giant kidney stones, n had no idea about the diverticulitis till I saw another dr.You would have thought with all the scans I've had in two years n my complaints about the pain it would have been diagnosed sooner.I was told it was fatty liver n possibly an ulcer .Its been two months since getting rid of the stones so I know that particular pain is gone.Id like to know why Dr's can't be more helpful in telling you what foods to eat for certain ailments. Thank God for the Dr's on utube.Im 77 n I remember years n years ago the Dr's actually had certain diets for different ailments n would make a copy for you to follow.

Great informative and very easy to follow video. Thank you. I have IBS as well as diverticulosis. Tomato pips were found in the pouches of my diverticulitis because I used to eat them constantly. I recently found that salads, coleslaw and uncooked veg irritate and cause acid reflux. 🙁. I'm not enjoying food anymore but have found relief in Slippery Elm Root and freshly squeezed celery juice. Please can you do the roughage video and try to include these two possible treatments. I'm curious if they can cause harm.

Thank you for the video I've had diverticulitis attacks often on for years and I'm beginning to realize that everybody has their own trigger if you can find out what triggers your diverticulitis.

I'm 64 and just had a flare up that I think was triggered by NSAIDS I took for a bad tooth ache. I was thinking, if my old dog presented the kind of pain I was in, I would have put him out of his misery. No such luck for humans.

I would love a deeper dive into fiber. I had diverticulitis in 2017. Worst pain of my life except for a migraine I had a few years earlier where I actually thought death would be better 😢 And I've given birth which hurt so much. Any way, I have been eating mostly whole food plant based since 2017 and haven't had a diverticulitis attack since. But I also quit smoking in 2020. Maybe it's both. I'm not Inuit heritage and also had high cholesterol in 2017. I didn't remember how high but I was prescribed statins I never took because I thought I could control with diet. I've also been told by every doctor I've been to since that I need to avoid nuts and seeds which I ignored because I knew the new research showed no connection with diverticulitis. My total cholesterol is way low.. 150. I would love an in depth dive into fiber and who is benefitted and who is not

I have Chronic Kidney disease for 20 years plus and in the last year suffered with diverticulitis. I believe because of the dialysis diet which consists of very little fibre and restricted water in take that I developed diverticulitis. For the past 8 months I've been suffering with severe pain although I've had two lots of antibiotics during that time. What advice can you give me?

Do a video on fiber and the different types of fiber. How about probiotics do they have a beneficial effect. And what about fermented foods do they improve the situation.

Thank you as I had a really bad experience the other night and I’m not sure why but I get nauseous and then the pain is so cruel and I begin vomiting. I don’t smoke or drink alcohol as I quit almost a year ago I drink 2 litres of water a day but still struggling to lose weight. I exercise more and have been plant based for 3 years so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for your wonderful videos

Eskimos also consume a lot of fat which is probably helping the digestive system. Like the carnivore diet!

One thing I have not heard mentioned is dairy. I experienced what I believe was a diverticulitis flare after adding dairy to a daily diet for 4 days in a row that I don’t normally eat. There was a stress factor also, so I just wondered if the added dairy could have contributed.

I ended up in the hospital with complicated diver after consuming a lot of popcorn five years ago. After several years of illness, I had a colon resection and had 21 inches removed. My quality of life improved immensely. That being said, I have pan colonic diverticula and worry about it coming back. How can I keep that from happening?

While I admire your video and your dedication we really didn’t learn anything. We learned what we thought that nobody really knows what causes any of this and how to treat it Other than surgical intervention
