My husband went all over the world training installers of fire alarm equipment. He had to memorize books full of part numbers and requirements for different areas and situations. He would sit in his office and tape himself reading the manuals and then play them back and listen while he was driving. Years later I saw videos by scientists doing research on how People’s brains in the memory areas light up more fully when they hear their own voice rather than someone else’s. Not only is this important for learning a subject, but it magnifies the importance of not speaking negative things to yourself, especially out loud. Your inner self will believe it and act accordingly.

Yep I agree. It works for me. I always put on READ ALOUD mode or SPEECH mode

This makes sense. I like to read out loud because I find that it's easier for me to focus and comprehend what I'm reading.

So so true, I can now only read while listening to audio books ❤ this is actually lovely that we’re a study

Listening to the audio book and reading at the same time was one of the ways they used to help me and others with dyslexia to develop our reading skills.

I understand that I need to put subtitles when I'm listening to podcasts. I have to combine passive and active learning. Thank you Andrew!

I actually realized this when I watch movies and shows with subtitles. I have a hard time focusing on the movie if it has no subtitles

I've always loved to read, haven't in awhile, audio with reading is helping me get back into focusing on the words

I am not good at reading, even when I'm totally interested in a book, it's too easy to put it down half way through and never pick it up again. I love audio books, and have never considered both at the same time to stay focused and improve my reading skills, till now, thank you!

When I take a proctored exam, they don’t let me read aloud. My brain can only comprehend when I read aloud.

This is so true. Since I started using text-to-speech whenever I study I can focus, understand much more and go through a lot more material in one go than before!

This is how we did it in elementary school, the teacher would play an audiobook via a tape and students would follow along. It was so immersive and now I know why

I’ve done this for years. Best way for me to read

If someone taps my right shoulder, I automatically look left. Remnant of kids in my childhood tapping my shoulder then dashing to the other side of me.

Anyway, what was he saying... Something about listening...

It's insane how he's bringing light to this I have been diagnosed ADHD for at least 10 years and when I learned it is best if I listen to it and read it at the same time I find that I absorb more information longer when Im combining my senses. Thank you professor
