I wish they would quit talking about me like I'm not here

That hyperfocus is truly unreal. it helps so much when you procrastinate too and have a short deadline

it’s not only fun stuff you can hyper focus on. If you are very worried about something that needs to be done, you can funnel the anxiety into pure focus.

We should add another layer to this: it’s not just what you don’t wanna do, it’s if there is any level of uphill battle to do something you brain will magnify that into seeming like the task is impossible.

My doc said that ADHD is not as much about being deficit of attention as it is about not being able to regulate their attention.

It’s honestly a curse when life is 90% stuff I don’t wanna do

I have the hyperactivity part with ADHD. I love to move around and talk. My enemy is sitting still or being quiet. When I get hyper-focused. I just zone out until someone or something distracts me. It's like I have to snap back in to reality.

Only 3 hours? They be having rookie ADHD, the solution I found is to disconnect from all pleasures until everything feels a little bland, then there is no significantly better thing to do

I feel it, I love reading, I hyperfocus on reading... but sometimes it becomes impossible to get through a sentence

You just explained me. I have ADHD and if there's something I enjoy I can do it forever but the moment I ain't interested in something count me out

As someone with ADHD, the hyperfocus isn’t always on something you’re actually interested in. The defining characteristic of attention deficit disorders isn’t a short attention span, it’s a lack of ability to control attention; I’ll lose hours throughout the day doing random shit that I don’t even care about because I’m unable to switch focus. Hell, I’ve spent hours staring at a wall because I couldn’t translate the thought of moving and actually doing something into a real action.

Hyperfocus can be *crippling* and it’s awful to have someone call you lazy or accuse you of making excuses or tryin to get out of shit when your brain is just…. Wired in a way that makes just trying to focus on things like brushing your teeth or even getting food a struggle.

Late diagnosis here, my mom used to always tell me growing up, "if you can find a career you're interested in, you'll be okay" now that I'm diagnosed, makes sense.

This is so true. A buddy of mine has pretty bad ADHD, so he’s on adderall which really is probably responsible for his focus levels. When that guy is playing that online chess you can say his name, wave your hand in front of his face, and he never flinches or moves, it’s like everything else just doesn’t exist. Same thing with school work. Shit is crazy.

But there are several other factors that truly make it adhd. don’t forget that sometimes they can focus on something (like picking at their face or finishing that video game level) and they can’t tear their focus away. They focus on it so intensely that they can go do something else and will even forget to eat/sleep/drink sometimes

I finally got diagnosed last year (26) and since learning about it my entire life makes sense now 😂, procrastinate for 3 months on my school project and then hyper focused the night before for seven hours. This happened with literally everything.
