Literally what my mother used to do to me growing up. And the trauma response to cars and footsteps is 💯 accurate,

Out of all of the mental health videos out there, yours hits home the as a mom....who also had a messed up mom. It really has opened my eyes to myself and my parenting, while also helps heal my inner kid a bit. I also need a psychiatrist 😅

If I stayed home from school because I was sick, my mother would make me feel guilty for doing nothing

I HATE it when people say, you can rest when you die. Dying and resting ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS!!!!

I feel guilty for needing more rest than some other people. I just got out of a forty year trauma bond and all I want to do is rest right now. I'm exhausted from being in fight or flight for too many years.

Literally me at 38. I had a wretched week, have a cough that keeps me up at night, and feel physically and mentally exhausted. As I Lay on the couch, which I never do, I'm having conflicting thoughts about simply resting. I still feel I need to get up and do something. As the oldest daughter, resting was not something I could do.

Wow! I relate to everything here! Including “looking busy” if I was resting and hear another’s approach

Wow that’s a new realization for me that my fear of loud footsteps, knocking at doors and cars stopping in front of the house could all be because I wasn’t allowed to rest as a child

My parents love to say that to anyone they see sitting and then take naps themselves in the middle of the day

When your body and mind are telling you, better STOP and REST... it's best to tune in and listen. After a period of time you could find yourself with some serious health problems. So regardless of what a friend or relative may have been telling you in the past or present, it's your well-being that needs YOU! It includes exercise and eating habits.

Or you’ll go to the public library to return a book and find a magazine you’ve been thinking of subscribing to. So you pick it up off the shelf because you have no where to go or anything you have to do so you sit down to read it only to find yourself fighting off an anxiety attack because you feel so bad for taking time to sit down and read.
That was me, yesterday. I sat there and held my anxiety until I could read again and I read TWO magazines. Working on rewiring my brain and emotions.

That's interesting how some of those who are against the rest time ( the ones I know)
never do something that really matters like read a book, learn a 2nd language, play chess, exercise... So they lack the rest time per se and culture as well.

Yeees! This is still my issue to feel guilty when my battery is low.

She kept me busy. Would call 6 am and bother us all. This is accurate!!!

So much just made sense to me!! I have Lupus & one of the biggest things I deal with is low energy so I have to rest a lot. I always feel guilty about it & anxiety while trying to rest. The jump up part is so real that it's painful

the face the mom makes at the end of each video kills me lol

This is 100% my father. I'm now 30 and I still feel guilty about sitting down and taking a break. I work full time and cannot bring myself to hire cleaning help, because it's seen as lazy.

remember to rest even when you work for yourself. have good boundaries and don't abuse yourself.

My mom used to "wash" our windows from outside with the waterhose at 6 am so we wouldn't sleep in.

Thank you! I'm away from my toxic parents, but I'm still having to practice to relax, as this was so damaging to me
