Why I Never Feel Guilty About Eating Junk Food

I used to feel extremely guilty after eating even a small amount of junk food. French fries were always the worst, and I could feel defeated from eating just a few fries.

These days I have zero guilt over anything I eat. The guilt we feel has little to do with the food, and everything to do with how we feel about the food. And most of the time, how we feel about it is from arbitrary rules that have almost nothing to do with fundamental nutrition principles.

We feel guilty because of fictional nutrition boogie men created by our fitness culture. Understanding this simple idea is the first step. The foods you eat are important, but what you eat isn't THAT important, especially when it's just an occasional indulgence.

I eat pizza every Wednesday. I just make it more bodybuilding friendly by using low fat mozzarella, a thinner base, vegetables as toppings, and extra protein from a meat substitute (I'm vegetarian). I get carbs, fats, veg, and protein. That's all my body cares about. It doesn't care whether it was chicken, rice and broccoli; or cheese, bread, and spinach.

I think I'll just add some greens to the food, like when my wife and I made lasagna. We added some leek and potato slices into the dish, as well as adding some other greens as a side dish and we cut down the meat ingredients. We actually quite liked the result!

You know, between checking macros on packages and the ingredient list, I started to feel like I could only eat fresh produce and meat, then some types of carbs but most the "healthy" made snacks are full of atleast 1 or 2 things that is debatable by the health industry.

Finally my approach has become

If im occasionally eating some things in small amounts that aren't real healthy, compared to the average person who eats whatever lands infront of them...then I'm still miles ahead of the average person

If I have to avoid every single thing I've enjoyed for 37 years in order to be consider fit and healthy then I'd give up altogether.

Pizza? Sure once every couple weeks
Doritos...absolutely, I limit my serving size and have em every once in a while

I just keep an eye on my overall calorie intake and don't sweat the fine points, im not a professional athlete or a model pass the move theater popcorn, it's an occasional treat and I don't give a damn...

Always enjoy your more laid back approach to this stuff and not being so diehard like 90% of the industry

Keep it up buddy

Trouble is that, at some point, having too much pizza will probably stop you from feeling great. And if you base yourself solely on how pizza makes you feel you might have it a few times too many before you realize it turned against you. Don't get me wrong. It's not that you must skip pizza altogether. It is that I'm not so sure about that purely subjective approach to food. I'm sure there's a lot of really overweight people that would say that eating pizza makes them feel great and, because of it, they stay on a huge caloric surplus far too long

Ok Mr knowledge expert... What about the Fiber, enzymes and antioxidants which is present in real food but missing in pizza... Don't you think they have a crucial role for our body... Man made food can never compete with real food that is designed by nature..

What about those who struggle with ARFID [avoidant restrictive food intake disorder], because they may eat mostly the same kind of food everyday? Would adding vegetables or salad to the pizza slices be a good idea?
