This is a very good sermon. I watched this 3 times :-) I have a Greek name which means "Shows signs of Glory". My parents are nominal Christians and I don't think they know the meaning of my name then. I would like to believe that God put in my parents' heart this name... Lon helped me way back in 2005 understand the Gospel. I went to every class offered at MBC because I did not understand how salvation works and Lon and his teachings showed me the way. Praise God for Lon. We miss him.

i have said, since i got saved in 02 that i believe He chooses, but we don't know who that is. So we need to preach to all like you said Lon... Amen...

Amazing message, Lon!!! Keep it coming. II Timothy 2:10 might wrap it up the best. Paul is the guy who wrote the most about election, but he also wrote about how he was paying the price to reach them. There’s nothing passive about election.
For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory. (2 Timothy 2:10, NASB)

Miss hearing you teach from the pulpit every Sunday Pastor Solomon! I received Christ as my Lord and Savior during one of your messages over 15years ago at Tyson’s. So glad to hear you continuing to teach! God has gifted you with a way to communicate His Word better than any pastor I’ve sat under the teaching of. Thank you for this message today. Loved listening to it!

So so good.... I heard of Calvinism but never really knew what it meant. And I never heard of Arminianism yet I understand that concept. Thanks again, Dr. Lon!

I don’t know how I missed this when it was live- I have been following along. But today I heard this message and I laughed so many times! Let me tell you why. Our family sat under your teaching for about 7 years at McLean MBC. Because of the way you taught the Bible and taught us how to study it for ourselves, all of the points you made on these tough issues are the exact conclusions we came to on our own. Of course it was good to hear you confirm and encourage me on these issues- but I just love that the Holy Spirit showed us the same thing because we study and trust the Word the same way. And then I also had to laugh because I use the same tactic about throwing out and picking up on certain magic words and phrases. Love it! Thanks, Pastor Lon!

Thank you Lon for a great study as usual. My wife and I never miss "Live with Lon" I am a former pastor and I have studied this topic extensively and I am an Arminian. I believe that when he talks about predestination and choosing in Ephesians 1, he is simply saying that in eternity God chose believers as being the ones He was going to save and not a specific person or nation (Israel) The only candidates for salvation are believers. Nothing else is taken into consideration. He uses the word "chose" deliberately because the Jews thought they were the "chosen" ones and flaunted that even in the Church. He's just saying no, all believers are the chosen whether they are Jew or Gentile. Also, the passages in Romans you alluded to are in the context of Israel and why most Israelites were not saved. How could they not be saved when they are the ones God chose to deliver the Scriptures, etc. They were deliberately hardened so that they could perform their priestly duty and deliver Jesus as the sacrifice that would make a saving relationship available to the world. If what they believed about the Messiah was true, that relationship would only be available to the Jews. His name would have never been known made known to the entire world. He used them to spread His fame exactly like he used Pharoah at the Exodus.

That's a wise perspective on calvinism vs arminianism that all believers of Jesus could benefit from. In fact, these are wise words for all regarding any seemingly contradictory concepts. Thank you Lon! Love your YouTube channel! And love the "so what"!

Tulip was a response to the Armenian views that were brought to the church council. Calvinism was the official doctrine of the church before the Armenian view was brought before the church council and the Armenian view was declared a heresy by the church

Biblical predestination is by foreknowledge by God. God knows who will eventually believe the Gospel.

Dr. Solomon, I enjoy your teachings, but I would strongly encourage you to check out a YouTube channel called Beyond the Fundamentals. There is a solution to the Calvinist debate, and clarity with the Scriptures.
