As someone with a gut very sensitive to laxatives, something on the weaker side is perfect.

Senna S for the win :). We use this on most of our hospice pt's, most of them are on opioids anyhow.

Dude no way. I used docusate alone and it helped much. It felt like I was pooping actual bricks. The docusate helped tremendously. I'd stop taking it, pooping bricks again. I was taking the highest recommended dose on the bottle tho 🤷

My doctor gave me colace for constipation, and I had the reverse effect! You have to drink tons of water for it to work. I've found probiotics, high fiber, increased water intake, and Metamucil work but all together lol 😝 Everybody is different! Some medications that work for some, aren't effective for others!

Well this explains things. I have chronic constipation since birth basically but I have to be careful because I'm also super sensitive to laxatives if I'm not already super constipated...so maintenance is difficult. I have better luck with colace...senna will have me crying from the force of the spasms, often getting nauseous and vomiting. I try to keep things controlled with miralax and the colace. I think it works, it's just not...violent, lol. Meanwhile my husband has used colace and claimed it was still working 2 days later, lol. so I honestly believe it works to a certain extent (not 2 days) mag citrate is a whole other beast, lol. I've had to use it plenty of times when I'm 2 weeks without a BM. He couldn't choke down half the bottle and felt abused afterwards, lol. It took 1hr to work on him.. 2 bottles and 2 days for me once.

I use it on its own when I screw up my water intake. I'm on several dehydrating medications, and take in about 2-3L of water a day to ensure I don't have a bad time. If I have less than 2, I get badly constipated. So, I take docusate sodium if I ever miss a movement and then chug water constantly until things get moving.

It works for me.

Yep, I used to take it, but then I didn't for a week for some reason (traveling and forgot it, ran out, something) and nothing changed. So I stopped.

My mom takes senna nightly to stay regular. I prefer it when she only takes one pill instead of two since I'm the one who cleans her commode she uses when she can't get to the bathroom. Lol

In this study, were patients taking it daily?

Dear Doc:
Movicol or docusate? Or it depends on preference

I volunteered to get a flu vax in 2010. If the Covid-19 is from that, you're going to be one busy doctor in the next few years. We're going to have some major societal problems actually.

That study should have a group that uses Colace without the senna, and a group who uses nothing otherwise it doesn't really give you the info you're looking for.

That said, Colace doesn't do shit for me.

That's a dumb way to study effectiveness
If I'm shitting my guts out kn both cases because of the stronger medicine, it's going to be a max rating every time
Where do you go past "yep, I'm shitting constantly 10/10" if you add just a little more laxative?

Senna can be painful, but i found that the docusate literally did nothing. Like i gave up and got a mcdonalds milk shake instead. Much faster. 😂 (yes im lactose intolerant. Yes, that can be exploited.)
