How To Fix Posture & Neck Pain Using A Chair Headrest

Make your ergonomic chair or gaming chair better for your neck in minutes. Many office chairs nowadays come with a headrest, and with a small adaption they could help improve your posture while sitting, and give you neck pain relief. Some chairs have a headrest that is flexible enough to give you neck support while in the upright position, but in most chairs the chair headrest position is not flexible enough to support your neck without this adaptation. Poor sitting posture is a major cause of neck pain, and tight shoulders, and pinch nerve pain down the arms. This chair hack will help you improve your neck posture by giving you a position to settle your neck into that is comfortable and healthy. It strengthens the Deep Neck Flexors. Helps prevent tight spinal joints in the neck. And takes pressure off the Levator Scapulae muscle which is an extremely common cause of neck pain from computer work. I show you how using a Sihoo Doro C300 ergonomic office chair as an example.

Thanks a bunch! I might actually remember leaving my head upright now (normally I sit up straight and then five minutes later, catch myself with a forward head again...) xD

Thank you. The exercises are wonderful. The head pushed forward and the armest moving backward exercise has done wonders for me. I will remember to do this throughput my day.

I suspect a significant number of "carpal tunnel syndrome" cases are actually "poor neck and shoulder posture". In the US, orthopedic surgeons hear "tingling in hands" and immediately jump to CTS. The reality is that Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and related disorders are much more common than they would like to admit and cause virtually identical symptoms as CTS. There are some minute differences you can look for if you suspect you have one of these disorders, but ultimately if your hand is tingling/numb, it's likely a pinched nerve *somewhere* between your cervical spine (neck) and the hand itself. It can be in the neck, shoulders, elbows, forearms, or the wrist.

All the chairs I want to buy for ergonomic reasons are over $300?! Like, seriously you have to be rich to be able to live a healthy life. All the other chairs below 300 are trash.

On another channel a posture therapist suggests that we should sit only with the lower back supported by the chair for good posture. However I can't bring myself to do this for long periods because I like resting my back. I have a herman miller chair so very ergonomic. Would you agree with him that your shoulders shouldn't touch the chair back or do you have a different opinion?

My headrest seems to go forward enough (I will check this with a mirror tomorrow). I never realized that the headrest can be used for a point of reference. My head wants to go forward.

Ridiculous that you have to mod the chair just to provide useful neck support. Why would they not design them this way? You had one job, neck support...

I don't think this will work for me as I am hunching over a tablet screen to do illustration work...I also keep leaning on the arm rest causing pain that side...I'm a mess! 😢
