I think Captain Picard said it best, "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose, that is not a weakness, that is life".

The principle essentially expressed here is that you can do all the right things, and still fail. You can do all the wrong things, and still succeed. Thus trying to use success or failure as the factor by which you measure yourself or others will often give you a result that doesn’t truly reflect the person you’re trying to measure.

i used to not understand this until a family member got sick and we were doing everything we could, exhaust all ways- conventional, non conventional, doing a lot of different studies, consulting to different doctors, and she still died.

you can do everything and try your best to increase the chance of success, but thats all you do. increase the chance of success. you can bring it up to 70, 80, 90, 99. but whether or not the actual success will come is not up to you.

and if you tied your self worth to result instead of to the amount of effort you make, youre up for dissapointment. every damn time.

Only worry about your current Actions. Own them. Hone them.

People do not seem to understand, this is not about responsibility to others, but to yourself. This is not about controlling the outside world, but your inner world. Your worth, identity and mood shouldn't be tied to the results of your actions but to the why and the how of your actions.

You only get to choose what you do. The consequences are not up for you.

Exactly! That makes sense.

I can only do what I can do, what happens after that is out of my hands.

Thanks for this. I needed to hear this. I always worry for other people’s opinions. I can only do my actions, but I can’t control how other people react.

I've been thinking, "I didn't make this meal. I didn't grow the plants, and even if i did. All I did was feed and water them. They did that themselves. I just took the ingredients and put them in a pot" since I was in elementary school. I figured that was a bad mindset to have. Now I'm being told it's the "correct" one. I just thought it was my artistic mind

You can try to affect the outcomes, but you are never truly in control of the outcome.

I need to listen to this one every day. It's a new thought, and the more I think on it the more I understand it. But it's very hard to change the mentality to that. But it will be very useful too

A very resounding truth! I will keep reminding this to myself

this is why you get sort of depressed after a major accomplishment: "that's it?"

you place the expectation on the accomplishment to be the source of your fulfilment, when in reality it's the action that led to it which made you feel fulfilled *in the moment*

Fax, know what you can only do, that you truly trust yourself you can do, and doing your best at it.

There's just as much as we can control in our lives, that it's not the goals we should prioritize at the top, but the initiative (just do it/start doing it) and the direction of our actions (how you want to do it and where it leads to, which is usually, the next step).

You can do everything wrong and win.

Bhagvat Geeta Chapter 2 verse 47

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन । मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि |

The right is to work only, but never to its fruits; let not the fruit-of-action be the motive, nor let the attachment be to inaction🙏🏽
