How much water should you drink in a day? The research shows that even mild dehydration can result in impairments in cognition, brain function as well as physical performance.
An easy way to find out if you are dehydrated is the skin pinch test: if you pinch the skin on the top of your hand and it returns to its flattened position within 2 seconds, you are properly hydrated; however, if it takes more than 5 seconds for the skin to return to its flat position, you are dehydrated.
A common mistake people make is drinking water with meals which can result in uncomfortable symptoms like gas, bloating, and acid reflux.
This is why it's important to aim to drink water at least 30 minutes away from meals for optimal digestion. To ensure proper hydration, try to drink 6-8 glasses of water each day.
