When Hector finally confronts Ernesto near the end of the movie, notice what the latter does. Ernesto subtly places Miguel in front of him for protection when he doesn’t realize it is his old friend and thinks it is some kind of violent stranger. The fact that Ernesto is doing this with his supposed great-great grandson instead of placing him behind himself indicates that he isn’t as much of a hero and good person that everyone believes he is, which is confirmed not long after this moment.

What confuses me about this movie is how everyone in the ending acknowledges that hector was the actual musician. Like how did miguel convince the entire town that he fought ernesto in the afterlife?

Something else to consider is that Ernesto never asks who Miguel is related to initially (as he more less goes on a whim that Miguel is simply family), meaning that Ernesto might’ve had so many night stands in life that he can’t think of a proper love interest and likely is father to several other families. All the more to pointing out his behavior when Hector shows up, tossing Miguel between them as a possible thought process saying, “Well he’s probably not the first great-great-grandson.”.

One small hint in the film is the skull guitar has a gold tooth, just like Hector.

To anyone who might think this is reaching, just remember that literally every single minute movement and detail in an animated film is placed there 100% intentionally. The animators put a LOT of thought into every little crevice of these movies

Was I the only one that predicted him being evil? I just said it as a joke thinking all those details were just some mistake while animating the movie and said... "Nah this dude is evil or something and that homeless skeleton guy is the real one" as a joke while watching it with my family.... Bro the faces of everyone looking at me when it turned out to be true and be just standing there in shock was hilarious

Ernesto also never asked Miguel who his parents are and how his great grandmother's condition considering that Miguel belived Ernesto is Coco's father.This probally hints that he has had so many lovers and mabey most of them were affairs and he couldn't think of any of the women he has hooked up with that he might have a daughter with.Also, during the remember me song when Ernesto was alive we see him walking down from the stairs that are moving upwards just to stand beside a dancer and wink at her.This might be a hint that she is his lover or affair partner.I apologize for this long comment

The fact he does this automatically makes me think Ernesto in life ticked off a lot of people that try to confront him before till the day one of them had enough and was the one that drop that bell on him. Ain't no way that rope broke naturally and right on him at the right time

Anyone else realize that in coco when Miguel mentions the don Hidalgo poisoned the drink Ernesto has, that hector died by being poisoned so basically Ernesto made fun of hectors death in a movie

Also the fact that he agreed to a random kid being is relative and with a picture of him no less even if it’s cut out, he problem has done it with so many girls and have fun that he barley remembers any of them or even having a child even though that picture if of he(not really ) with a child, I’m so confused on if he just thought that he had forgotten and will be like oh yeah I remember having a few kids oh well guess one of them is back

I noticed that when he hid behind him because if someone really does care and wants to protect you they'll stand in the front or confront the person (not all ppl do it tho)
