Did You Know In COCO…

There is actually an early indication that Miguel’s great-great grandfather isn’t really Ernesto de la Cruz. Although the picture of his ancestor has his face torn off, we do see that the man has a belt buckle of two guitars crossing (hinting at Hector and Ernesto’s double act). However, when we meet Ernesto, his belt buckle only has a flourish of decoration, with no guitars present. This not only identifies Ernesto as the wrong man, but also indicates that Ernesto cares about other things than music.

The designer: I put two guitars because it looked better

And also when he says “I give you my blessing” to Miguel, the marigold petal didn’t glow, but when Hector does it, it glows

The petal didn’t glow when Ernesto said, “Miguel, I give you my blessing.”

One thing I noticed when watch coco when Ernesto when he says I give you my blessing it never glows like when his actual family does it

Better indicator of the true grandfather is the design on the guitar. The skull decoration has a gold tooth. Hector has a gold tooth in the same place.
The gold tooth must’ve been something like a trademark for him as a musician.

There’s also the fact that Hector and Ernesto have different body shapes- The man in the picture doesn’t have the same structure as Ernesto 😭

You used his belt as an example! What about the part where when he gives his blessing the petal doesn’t glow why does no one ever mention that

Ernesto de la Cruz is the closest thing to a real Disney villain we got in years and...he's Pixar.

I pretty much figured it out the second Ernesto said "I taught De La Cruz everything he knows"

I pretty much zoned out until I saw the twist reveal cause it became too obvious after that point.

There's another detail that we realized that their not related and happens when Ernesto de la Cruz says "I give you my blessings" the petal didn't glow after

Man I put it together without any of those hints it just felt like it wasn't that guy meanwhile the guy helping seemed to be a perfect fit

It also hints somewhere else because when Imelda gave Miguel the first blessing the petal immediately started glowing but it didn't when de la Cruz said it

In his defense though, it's a good thing to not ONLY care about music. 😂

The giveaway is the family claiming Miguel’s great-great grandfather was forgotten; but everyone knows Ernesto?

The Gold Tooth on the guitar is the same on on Hector. But I pieced it together with Hector fitting the description of whom Miguel was searching for. Also, Ernesto is too big to be the guy in that torn picture

The thing is that despite the man in the photograph being Hector, he doesn't match the shape of the man in the picture, neither alive nor dead.

Another theory: Coco was actually about the dead, and this was hinted by the multiple mentions of the dead and the skeletons 😱

Isn't the fact that the Riviera Family having a different chin shape compared to Ernesto also an indicator that he isn't related to Miguel?
