Did You Know In COCO…

There happens to be a scene that actually foreshadows the power that Hector’s music truly has. During the scene where Chicharron is about to fade and he asks Hector to play him a song, once the song is played, Chicharron remarks how it brings back memories. It happens to be Hector’s song, Remember Me, that helps to revitalize his daughter Coco’s memories at the end of the movie when Miguel plays the song to her, due to the fact that Hector and Coco would sing it many years before.

They didn’t even know that keeping her away from music was slowly killing her. That ending scene is so beautiful never fails to make me cry

In real life, music has been shown to help bring back memories in dementia patients, especially if it is a song that they know of from the time, like an old woman who used to be a ballet dancer, will mimic the arm movements for the dance of “Swan Lake” when she hears the song

There's a saying that basically goes "Everyone dies twice; the 1st is after their heart beats for the last time, & the 2nd is after their name gets said for the last time." It makes you wonder how many of the billions of people who have died have no one left alive who remembers them?

Glad Mama Imelda, the dead and living relatives saw their mistakes. If they kept at it, who knows what Coco might've been like before her passing

I also love this scene because up until that point, we knew two things about Hector. He's a guy who is really down on his luck and even in the afterlife, has used up all of his favors, and that he hates musicians. So seeing him here being so talented in his playing and clearly someone who has played many times before is a beautiful moment. It's a great foreshadowing to how unlike Ernesto, music to Hector meant more than fame and fortune.

To be honest… music alone is so human and powerful… I think the film expressed that so well

And the fact Miguel looks almost exactly as Hector helps bring memories much easier.

When my sister was on her way out, I sang her an old worship song and she sang it with me. Her memory at that time was coming and going. But singing helped. Miss u so much sissy ❤️

Also another foreshadowing moment in this movie the guitar has a gold tooth and no one in the movie had a gold tooth except Hector

The other foreshadowing is the zoom on the shot glass when Miguel and Hector leave this place

My mom used to sing "You are my Sunshine" a lot in my childhood. She's still alive at the time I'm typing this, but I think she stopped a long time ago. Now whenever I think of the song, I can't help but imagine it being sung with my mom's voice.

some music makes me remember certain events that happened in the past. When those events happened, i coincidentally was listening to said music a lot. Music is an insane memory trigger.
