What is toxic leadership? Have you ever dealt with a toxic boss, toxic manager or perhaps a toxic leader? For example, the lead in a group project? The captain or head of your sports team? A supervisor or team Leader at work?

Toxic leadership creates a toxic work culture of distrust, conflict, anxiety, and fear. If you’ve ever encountered a toxic leader, then it will be easy to understand why it’s so crucial that you try to protect yourself, your mental health and sanity. Sometimes, a toxic work environment might make it harder for us to identify the toxic boss signs.

The Alliance Against Workplace Violence (AAWPV) has commemorated the month of April as Workplace Violence Awareness Month. Wondering if you're dealing with toxic leadership or a manipulative boss? Psych2Go presents to you the 7 Signs of Toxic Bosses and Leadership.

I've worked for a toxic boss. Get something lined up ASAP or quit on them immediately. I understand we have to pay bills, but toxic bosses are terrible for your mental health and they look for ways to fire you anyway.

I work in housekeeping in a hospital and literally we had a meeting due to this Pandemic and the question of hazard pay came up and my boss flat out said we technically signed up for that job, we knew what we were getting into or what risks come with working there. Like I'm sorry...SIR we didn't sign up for a pandemic but thank you for your professional response. Legit an a-hole.

It seems like being a complete jerk is one of the requirements for being a manager (or any person higher up) at work.

This is scary how spot on this is to my previous job environment and the management. I literally had to quit because of the astounding way I was being treated. I will never be a “yes” woman and I am so proud of that.

I actually got fired from my job by my toxic boss 3 weeks ago. I'm definitely not the kind of person who says yes blindly...

Having a bad boss isn't your fault. Staying with one is

Unfortunately my old boss's narcissistic traits were the reason she was chosen to become manager. No matter how much we complained about her HR didn't seem to care. The ends justified the means apparently.

I've noticed that some people start in a lower position and are great people, but then they're promoted to managers/supervisors and become insufferable. It's like the job changes them

Every job I ever had, every "training" type situation I've ever been in, I've encountered these toxic "leaders" and bosses. I ended up having to start my own business and be self-employed to get away from them.

It took me 2 years to realize I have a toxic manager. Just like an abusive relationship, you may feel like you everything’s okay and normal but once you stepped away and got a better picture, you can see it was exhausting and toxic.

I feel this I had like 7 toxic coaches who don’t listen to what I have to say and if I do say anything I’ll be benched! Or they betray my trust and bring me down because they only wants what’s best for them or they friends/ children

ALSO THEY DONT EVEN DO ANYTHING!

Had a highly toxic boss + his wife. Other leads confronted them on a monthly basis about their behaviour but as such people are, they say that everything they do is the right thing.

I did the only sane thing and left the company after 4 years.

I had a toxic boss in my first official job. This video just further confirmed that it wasn’t due to me being over sensitive.
