Doing black magic rituals keeping you big as hell

I have never worn my workout clothes TO the gym. I wear street clothes to the gym every workout I’ve had since high school. The act of going to the locker room and changing my clothes is a transformation ritual that signals to myself. “I’m here to be serious and get to work.” It’s a subtle psychological shift, but it’s always helped me to differentiate who I am and what is/isn’t worthy of my focus and attention in and out of the gym.

Honestly, I've been saying this to my mates for ages, and I love this concept. It's the same as having a strong coffee before bashing out a late night of work, or even just putting on a uniform/suit and tie before going to school/the office. It gets you focused and locked in to the main task at hand that matters in THAT situation, and therefore, you're more mentally prepared to complete it to the best of your ability.

I call pre-workout “Liquid Motivation”

I've seen this work in non-workoit related things.
I've started a habit of starting my mornings by checking on all my reptiles to see who needs food, who needs water, who has stuck shed that I need to peel off, etc. and it really signifies the start of the day and has really helped with lethargic tendencies from depression and anxiety. Even if it isn't much, it gets me out of bed to slowly get motivated and remember that I am allowed to take care of myself too.

Routine is everything in my life being retired.I don’t HAVE to do shit if I don’t want to.But, I have to discipline myself to have an established routine to make sure that I get done what needs to get done.Music.Quick shower.A daily dance is my pre gym.😬😅And 1 walk the mile or so TO and FROM my gym.Having routine keeps me focused and gives me purpose every day. That purpose is my health.Keeping it and living a full life for as long as possible.💪🏻😊

I have OCD and just started hitting the gym about 3 months ago and it’s helped tremendously organize my thoughts into healthy “rituals” And it’s so true. As soon as that pre workout hits the lips. Game time

This is a interesting concept explained in atomic habits and in the book it's called 'Habit Stacking' incredibly explained by Mike

Another term is called habit stacking, mixing in desirable habits with habits already done to help commitment and reinforcement of the habits you want. There’s an entire book on this and way more called Atomic Habits by James Clear. It’s an absolute 11/10 book and a game changer imo.

I like that Mike talks about the mentality part of working out too. I wanted to work out yesterday out of habit but honestly my body wasnt up to it l. So i gave my self a well needed rest day.

Carl Jung talks a lot about the psychological significance of rituals, and how they provide a "doorway" of sorts into a distinct psychological states. Our brain interprets metaphor very powerfully, and the "ritual" of doorways is one of the most powerful. Even going through a doorway in your house can completely reset your brain.

Reminds me of a book called “Atomic Habits” by James Clear

Agreed - once I discovered this consistency was much easier to maintain

You're right on the ritualization aspect, but it's not only that. If you take any pill for health and then have a nap, that pill isn't wasted if you don't nap. Now, a pre-workout is completely thrown away if you don't do your workout. I'd personally say that this is more of a "ok, I've paid for this and have already taken a cup of pre, so I have to exercise or else I'm wasting my money" rather than a mere ritualization as it's explained here.

HOLY SHIT!!!! I KNEW IT and needed this! I used to workout every single day, and I loved it! I always felt my ability to be consistent with working out was my little rituals I would create like taking pre-workout. I think specifically the Beta-alanine and the tingles that it gives became like a queue for my mind and or body to stop whatever I was doing and go to the gym. I then had an accident that created a a sort of spiral of other problems that made me fall out of everything and I've been trying to go back after not being able to work out for about 4 years. In my mind I knew I had to make little rituals to get that momentum going or I knew I wasn't going to be able to be consistent but peeps I took as authority figures said I'm overcomplicating everything and that I just need to stop making excuses and go back. So now psychologically I like unconsciously or something don't let myself have rituals, like take some pre-workout, because then I feel like I'm overcomplicating it or creating unnecessary crutches etc.. To cut it short, it's felt like almost impossible for me to get back to the gym because of the anxiety of judgments etc. and a bunch of other stuff that I felt like I conquered before. But yeah, everyone can shut the eff up, I'ma take some of that beta-alanine and a little bit of caffeine gives me those lil tingles, set that timer for 15 minutes because that helped me get off the couch and to the gym which made me fit and happy for years. It's been so hard to get back, sorry for all this but just yeah. Fuck yeah, I needed this Dr. Mike. It's been so hard to get back, but yeah, eff everyone, I'ma do me and I'ma do my lil unnecessary but necessary rituals.

Very much agree with the principle of this. I don’t use pre workout but I have my own routines and positive habits I’ve implemented in my personal life and I can’t even express how much it’s improved my work life, my personal life and my fitness.
