In this episode, let’s look into top 10 treatment options to get rid of mealybugs and aphids from your garden. Let’s see what happens to mealy bugs when you spray various solutions especially the cocktail mix for extensive mealy bug infestation.

Mealybugs are infact insects and considered sap sucking pests in gardening. They are soft-bodied insects covered with a white, waxy, cottony material. Dissolving this protective waxy layer will kill these mealy bugs. There are different entomological types of mealy bugs but in home gardening we are mainly concerned with root mealy bugs or ground mealybugs and the sap sucking leaf mealybugs. This is a complete step by step guide.

If you see mealybugs and ants together, then this is a serious issue and difficult to eradicate them. Because they have a mutual symbiotic relationship and these ants protect the bugs from predators and parasites. This also applies to aphids. The ants, especially the fire ants help mealybugs by carrying them to the tips of growing plants and in return they get to eat the honeydew excreted out of their anus.
Having said that, let’s look into the treatments:

Please Give a Thumbs Up if you found this video helpful! Kindly SHARE with your gardening friends!
Also For pesticide: please do a patch test on a leaf before spraying on entire plant. If it’s too much for the plant, the wilts in an hour. Then you can reduce the dose.

I tried neem oil and liquid detergent then used a toothbrush to gently brush the affected area. It worked. Plant is still healthy now. Thank you for your suggestions. They are effective.

In the spring I get aphids on my roses. Of course they like the new flower buds. I've tried spraying with neem oil and I've used hydrogen peroxide. Both work but they take time to kill off all the bugs. The most effective way that seems to keep them off all summer is to just put on a pair of thin gloves and wipe the buds and leaves with my fingers, squishing the aphids. This leaves a residue of aphid juice all over the tender parts of the plant where the aphids were and they don't seem to want to come back to the plants after that. After squishing them I usually spray the ground with hydrogen peroxide to kill any that have fallen. By June I rarely see any aphids on the roses. I can't say I've ever seen mealy bugs on my plants here in the South Okanagan, in Beautiful British Columbia!

I had mealy bugs, ants, and millipedes infesting one of my Hibiscus plants. Diatomaceous earth was the best and easiest treatment option. I'm now getting flower buds that area able to fully bloom without falling off and the whole plant is leafing out more. What a huge difference. And diatomaceous earth is safe and nontoxic for pets and children who may love to run around your garden as well.

I had a money plant which kept getting infected with millybugs, so I took it out of pot and sprayed the whole plant, including the roots using garden hose, removing every trace of soil. After I've sprayed the whole plant using solution of water and neem oil. No more millybugs.
They lived in the soil and kept coming back.
It's a good idea to burn the soil on the bonfire.
