The first time I’ve seen a chef talk health sense, not promote some dietary fad. Kudos for sound, sensible and honest advice.

My Royal diet isn’t working too well: Burger King, Dairy Queen, White Castle, etc.

GREAT video!! Very practical. FYI my coworker lost 100 lbs in a year under strict doctor supervision, following his rules: No alcohol, snacks, butter/oil/sauces or desserts. Three meals a day. Divide your plate: half is any produce (raw or cooked), 1/4 is lean protein, 1/4 is a carb. If still hungry, eat as much veggies as she wanted. Just go nuts. She learned to use herbs, spices, vinegars, hot sauces. She started walking more because it got easier. Ten years later the weight is still off; she still eats that way because she never feels deprived.

I am SO glad you mentioned, "don't shop when hungry." Best advice I got many years ago. That and "shop around the edges" and dive into the middle only when you know what you are going in for.

All of this is great info. But you don't need to over complicate it. I was a professional high end cook for 15 years. If you come to my house you will see the following items in my kitchen. Refrigerator: Milk, chicken thighs, eggs, bacon, oranges, apples, butter. My pantry: rice, potatoes, oil, salt, BBQ seasoning, protein powder, soy sauce, LMNT. And I keep bananas on the counter. That is literally everything. I eat bacon eggs and potatoes for breakfast, fruit throughout the day with a protein shake and thighs over rice for dinner. When I go to the grocery store I buy some nigiri and treat myself. I have been doing this for a long time now and I'm still not bored of it. I can change it up by buying different BBQ seasonings, sometimes I'll buy duck breast instead of thighs or a hanger steak. A couple times a month I will go out to dinner with friends and not care about what I order because 99% of my diet is locked in and perfect. Guys, it's not about remaking recipes or finding "low fat" options and substitutes. Buy simple high quality whole ingredients and learn how to prepare them simply and perfectly. A perfectly cooked and seasoned chicken thigh tastes better than some complicated recipe cooked terribly. The other side benefit is my grocery bill. I go to the store and buy 5 things. I find the highest quality 5 things and my bill is still under $100. Hell, I go to a local farm and buy raw organic milk straight from the cow for $8/gallon and I'm still sub $100/week. You would be shocked at how filling and refreshing a cold whole apple is straight out of the fridge. Do this, live to 100. The recipe is simple and has been the standard for thousands of years.

About 12months ago, I was diagnosed with Type-2 Diabetes. I adopted a low-carb diet. I now make my own bread and pasta. Since then I lost about 20kg.

Someone suggested a meal prep video below. I definitely second that! A trio of meal prep lunch suggestions would be clutch

Another key factor of weight loss is to know your metabolism. Does fat spike your triglycerides and cholesterol, or do carbohydrates? It may sound counterintuitive, but eschewing fat in favor of carbohydrates can really plunge you into a cardiologist's nightmare. I do great on a keto diet. I drop a lot of weight, my blood glucose stabilizes, my A1C drops, my blood lipids and cholesterol plummet, my good cholesterol ratio rises, and I get tons more energy for doing daily tasks, but that's a hard diet to stick to, and an expensive one. Other people find that a low fat, higher complex carbohydrate diet is better for them. My mother benefits most from a Mediterranean diet featuring complex carbohydrates, lean protein, and lower fat, but for my father, like me, carbohydrates, complex or not, were his anathema. Sometimes, it takes some trial and error to find what macronutrient balance works for you.

One thing I love about your channel is that My son has a very high calorie need, and so the trick has been making sure he gets enough calories while not taking in too many for myself. I love your use of flavors and with these tips in mind, it will make life a little easier (though I still will have to make separate meal soft the most part, lol.) Thank you

I eat close to keto and lost a lot of weight. Carbs make you hungry. Protein and fat keeps you full. I eat eggs and bacon every work day. Then 8 hours later I eat a sandwich with turkey or chicken and cheese, a piece of fruit, baby carrots, and peanuts/popcorn/cheese. It’s about 1100-1300 calories and you’ll be a little hungry before lunch and before bed but if you need to lose weight it will work.

I'm glad you added that bit at the end of #6. NEVER go grocery shopping until after you've eaten. It's amazing how much extra junk you cut out by having even just a small snack first.

During hot weather I often have a can of San Peligrino or other carbonated water and add a splash of a healthy organic juice, preferably a red one. It's very satisfying!

The edges of the supermarket are connected to cold storage, i.e. walk-in coolers, and the loading docks for fresh delivery. It's not an evil conspiracy; it's practical design that's been that way since the days of the country store and corner market.

There are no foods that can guarantee fat loss, you need to be in caloric deficit. No matter what you eat, if you are in caloric deficit, pounds will go down. I lost 70lbs in last 10 months, so I know what I am talking about haha. I was doing cold showers, warm lemonades and fast walking after wake up, swapped sweets with fruits... After 5 days I was feeling completely different! I had more energy and strength, and then I took meal plan for weight loss on OnlyMeal, and it was so easy to follow. Just remember that nothing comes overnight.

My big hook for water is soda water or seltzer. A single dash of bitters, or a squeeze of lemon or lime, a few slices of cucumbers, etc... it's what got me to kick the Soda habit.
