How Not to Stall a Motorcycle on Takeoffs: An Effective Strategy to Keep Your Bike From Stalling

There are many videos on how to avoid stalling a motorcycle, so why another one? It is simple: I didn't find a single one helpful enough when, not too long ago, I was learning to ride and kept stalling my bike quite often on takeoffs. The strategies I share in this video came to me from seasoned riders, and they are incredibly simple yet effective. I do hope that you, just as I did, will find them useful. A quick disclaimer here: I am not a motorcycle instructor, so I encourage you to please take a motorcycle safety riding course and follow their instructions carefully. Ride at your own risk. Reluctant Biker disclaims any liability incurred in connection with the use of the strategies outlined on this video and channel. You alone are responsible for your own safety, so please ride safely, my friends.

A note of caution: Be sure to employ with caution the strategies addressed in this video. Know your bike first. These strategies work well with bikes that are of forgiving nature, but may not work as effectively with aggressive bikes, a.k.a., speed demons. Know your bike first. Then carefully employ these strategies.

Also, quick disclaimer here: On this video and channel I do share tips and strategies on various aspects of riding a motorcycle. However, I am not a motorcycle instructor, so I encourage you to please take a motorcycle safety riding course and follow their instructions carefully. Ride at your own risk. Reluctant Biker disclaims any liability incurred in connection with the use of the strategies outlined on this video and channel. You alone are responsible for your own safety, so please ride safely, my friends.

If you are a beginner and are looking for your first bike, here are some good options:

I can relate to the "The loud noise from the engine would scare me, making me feel like I'm damaging the bike." I laughed out loudly 😂😂

Don't look down at the bike over analyze and stall!)...Look where you WANT to go, and learn to "feel and listen" to the clutch and Engine RPM.

As a new rider I agree my starts are the thing I’m having the most trouble with. This tutorial is the best one I’ve seen. Not in just the way you show how, but the way you commentate it! Much appreciated!

I'm a new rider, and I've had my bike for two weeks. This video really helped me because, as you say, I was too worried about over-throttling the engine. Your video helped me get over that hump. Doing better now. Thanks.

Outstanding video. You have a great way of explaining how to keep from stalling and your way of saying to not be afraid to twist the throttle was very assuring for us. Keep up the great work and please make more “how to” videos to help out new riders! God Bless.

Definitely needed this because all the videos and instructions I've received strictly talk about the friction zone and SUPER slow maneuvers or launching the bike. This was perfect.

Watched many videos and did my UK CBT. Got a brand new bike and just started riding.... I'm alright at night (no traffic) but still catching the bus to work! This is the video that puts my fears into words. Thank you. I'm going to work on stating from a stop faster. Bless you. You may have unlocked my touring days once i get out the city :)

Your advice was priceless. I always worried about giving too much throttle to the engine on takeoff..Thank you very much for that information.
