How to Not Stall a Manual Car - Clutch Control Tips and Tricks

Показать описание
Stalling your car, whether it's petrol or diesel, is a concern that almost every new or young driver has when they're first learning to drive, about to take their test or even if they're a little rusty after not driving for a while.

The main ideas with clutch control are patience and sensitivity. When you set the throttle at a certain RPM you'll want to hold the biting point of the clutch and wait until you feel your car moving before releasing the clutch completely!

Good luck on your journey of learning to drive, drive safe!
Cheers,
Alex.

That feeling when the car moves without stalling or jerking is the best feeling ever when in a driving school. You just wish there was a crowd of people to clap for you for that achievement. 😂😂😂😂

I'm good at changing the gears when going. I just suck at starting.

Alternative title: how not to piss off your driving instructor.

Bro driving a manuel is like a ritual preparation.
_Okay now you gotta feel the pedal on a _*_SPIRRITUAL LEVEL_*_ therefore understanding how to please it and that then it will bite you so you give it the gas and a love story appears_
Sorry i got carried away.

This was very helpful. i was taught in a diesel, bought a petrol. i drove home from work today for the first time on my own and stalled 8 times, 4 times on a steep hill start busy 4 way junction with a queue of traffic behind me and a driver right up my back.
was really scary.

I was taught diesel, I pretty much never stalled and I was more or less a confident driver. My first car was a petrol, and the second time driving it I was at a junction with a pretty steep slope and a pissed off taxi driver beeping his horn constantly behind me. After around my 5th stall he finally went to go around me and as he passed he shouted "learn how to fucking drive". It was a pretty traumatic experience to say the least! moral of the story, petrol cars are much harder to master and taxi drivers are bellends😂😂

Using a manual transmission.
1. Inertia is your friend.
2. You're not racing, once you're moving, you have plenty of time to shift.
3. The hand brake is your friend when learning to hill start.
4. Engage clutch rapidly, release slowly.

With practice, your speed will increase and you won't need to use the hand brake for hill starting.
Hill starting
1. Engage the hand brake to hold the vehicle. This means you don't have to worry about rapidly moving your right foot from the brake to the accelerator.
2. Release the foot brake and press on the accelerator.
3. Slowly release the clutch until you feel the vehicle attempt to move forward
4. Release the hand brake
5. Continue to release the clutch and increase the accelerator.

And as mentioned, with practice, the time it takes from releasing the foot brake to moving forward on a hill start will drop to the point where you won't need to use the hand brake and inertia will be enough to hold the vehicle in place while starting out.

I’m so paranoid about stalling that I overrev before the friction point

4:50 This is why I'm thankful for tutorial videos. My parents are both great drivers, but neither one of them told me I wasn't supposed to lift my whole leg when using the clutch, probably because they couldn't see what my leg was doing while they sat in the passenger seat. No wonder I keep stalling so much (besides the fact I've only been practicing a couple days), I'm releasing the clutch too fast.

heel on the floor. LOL. I literally cant do that, my feet/ankles dont have the correct maneuverability to do it. My feet hovver but it gets me by.
I passed yesterday, and everything you said is bang on. DO NOT RUSH! That was my downfall as a learner was I was trying to hurry out of a situation and it just messed the car up.

I’ve only just discovered this video but it’s really helped after a rather scary and embarrassing set of stalls at some traffic lights on the way back from work today. Thank you!

You're a top lad! Thanks for giving people more of the spin they need for day-to-day. As you've heard, it's really vital for learning/newly licensed people transitioning from diesel to petrol. Holding it at the bite for a few secs before bringing it up as you said really helped me!

Thank you so much! That trick holding the clutch at the biting point helped alot. Nobody ever said that trick to me. I have always releasing it slowly and havent kept it at the biting point and it stalled every time. I was asking myself wtf is wrong with me unless I saw this video. Man thank you so much!!! keep it up! ly <3
